everybody knew jungwon as the popular, handsome guy at school. total girl magnet. girls would literally drop everything for him, all because of his charming looks and that cocky, kinda selfish personality.
you never really got the hype. like yeah, he’s handsome… but that’s it.
and somehow, out of all people, he ended up being your seatmate, always cracking dumb jokes and asking for homework like it’s his full-time job. he seriously acts like the world revolves around him.
you wake up, get ready, and head to school like any other day.
on the bus, you find a seat and are just about to put your headphones in when you hear whispering behind you.
“omg did you hear? jungwon and his gf broke up.”
“WHAT? no way. do you think i have a chance with him now?”
you let out a quiet laugh, shaking your head as you finally put your headphones in, playing fever – enhypen.
still… you couldn’t help but feel a little surprised.
you found yourself wondering what even happened.
i mean, yeah he’s a total jerk, but he’s also known for being loyal, the kind of “every girl’s dream” boyfriend.
“why do i even care?”
you sigh and turn up the volume as your stop gets closer.
the bell rings and you make your way to your seat, only to find jungwon already sitting there.
he looks… normal? too normal for someone who apparently just had a breakup.
“morning nerd. have you done the homework?”
“stop calling me nerd, jungwon.”
he just giggles like you didn’t even say anything. “whatever. you got it or not?”
“jungwon, why do you always ask me and why the hell do you never do it yourself?” you’re already annoyed before the day even properly starts.
he leans back in his chair like he owns it. hips back legs slightly spreading. “geez, i didn’t have time yesterday. and you’re like… the only kind-hearted girl i know.” he smirks.
you scoff, clearly not buying it. “you’re so funny. why don’t you ask one of the other girls who are obsessed with you? or your girlfriend—” you pause for half a second too late. “she’s literally in the same course.”
silence.
that was… not supposed to come out like that.
jungwon’s expression doesn’t change much, but something in the air does.
“ex.”
you blink. “what?”
he shrugs slightly, eyes still on you but unreadable now. “ex.”
“oh.”
your voice comes out smaller than you meant it to. “what why?!”
but before he can answer, the classroom door slides open and the teacher walks in.
“good morning everyone. as you know, we’ve been discussing the class trip. well… plans finally implemented. our journey will start next week.”
the class immediately stirs with noise, excited whispers, chairs moving, chaos filling the room.
but you don’t really hear any of it.
because jungwon still hasn’t looked away from you properly. you glanced at him but he immediately turned around.
the lesson passed as usual and you were heading home. you forgot about the whole situation in school because you were hella excited for the trip and spend time and create memories with your friends.
days pass, it’s the night before the class trip.
your suitcase is packed, everything’s done, and you’re just lying on your bed scrolling through your phone, trying to relax.
then ding.
a message. from jungwon??
“y/n, i need your help.”
what.
“no, i won’t send you the homework.” you reply immediately.
a few seconds later:
“you’re funny. i’m serious. you need to do me a favor.”
okay… that tone is new.
no sarcasm, no jokes. just straight.
you sit up a little.
“what do you need that late at night, jungwon?”
there’s a longer pause this time. too long.
“you know the trip tomorrow. i need to make my ex jealous. we have to act like a couple on this journey.”
you stare at the message.
once.
twice.
three times.
your heart literally drops.
is he fucking serious???
he continues typing.
“i know, i know it sounds extremely weird and you’re probably asking yourself why i chose you. you’re the only girl i know who isn’t head over heels for me. just for this one week, please.”
again… that same cocky tone. like he already knows you’ll agree.
you type back quickly.
“yk that’s not the smartest decision. why are you playing with someone’s emotions?”
a short pause.
“y/n, you don’t know what happened between us. what i’m planning is harmless compared to what she did to me.”
you squint at the screen.
“now i want to know the beef.”
“funny. maybe tomorrow. see you at the bus station. we’ll discuss how we’ll fake it.”
your eyes widen.
“what the hell jungwon who said i’m down for it?”
read.
typing…
“i know i can always rely on you 😉 see you.”
he’s offline.
you stare at your phone for a second before dropping it onto your bed.
“arghhhh how much i hate him,” you groan.
so conceited. so annoying. so typical jungwon.
- the next morning -
you barely sleep that night. every time you close your eyes, it’s jungwon’s message replaying in your head.
in the morning, you sit at your vanity, staring at your dark circles.
“all because of him…” you mumbled.
⸻
at the bus station, it’s loud and full of students. you’re scanning the crowd when you see her—jungwon’s ex.
with a new guy. what.
you freeze.
she cheated on him?
⸻
on the bus, you sit down, waiting for your friend. but then
jungwon.
he takes the seat next to you.
“ehm, that seat is taken,” you say.
“forgot? we’re starting now.”
you sigh. “ugh, you’re so selfish. then tell me, what happened between you two?”
his eyes land on you. “you already saw it, you really think i did not see how you were looking for me”
“i was looking for my friends.”
he laughs. “sure.”
you grab your headphones.
“let me hear,” he says, slipping one in.
moonstruck by enhypen
it got dark. most students were asleep, a few still playing games, others just staring out the window at the passing lights.
sleep deprivation finally hits you.
you turn your head slightly.
jungwon is asleep.
his hair is messy now, falling over his eyes, face relaxed in a way you’ve never really seen before.
he actually looks… good. not annoying. not cocky. just quiet.
you close your eyes too.
⸻
hours pass.
you’re half asleep, completely out of it, when something shifts.
a soft weight against your cheek.
you blink slowly.
you’re leaning on jungwon’s shoulder.
before you can even fully process it, you feel his fingers lightly playing with yours… and his other hand playing with your hair.
your eyes snap open.
you sit up immediately.
jungwon is already awake, looking at you like nothing happened.
he lets out a quiet laugh.
“you’re really good at faking our relationship.”
—
the bus finally stops. you’ve arrived.
everyone rushes off, grabbing suitcases and laughing, the whole class hyped for the trip.
you and your friends head into your room.
“i am so hyped guys,” you say, dropping your bag.
“y/n why were you sitting next to jungwon on the bus? i thought you were just seatmates.”
you hesitate. “i mean… we are. promise you won’t tell anyone.”
“duh, we’re your friends.”
so you tell them everything. the fake dating, the message, the plan. even show them the chat.
their reactions aren’t what you expected.
“y/n… you’re being way too much of a people pleaser. he’s just using you.”
“yeah, he takes and takes but never gives anything back.”
“just tell him to leave you the fuck alone.”
their words stick in your head more than you want to admit.
“you guys are right… i am gonna tell him that i am not his slave”
⸻
you leave the room.
jungwon’s hotel door.
knock.
he opens it, surprised.
“jungwon, we need to talk.”
he tilts his head. “ohhh, you’re imitating me now.”
“i’m serious. can you let me in?”
he steps aside.
inside, it’s just him.
“look… i told my friends and they said this is a bad idea—”
“are you fucking serious?” his voice cuts through yours immediately. “you told them? that should’ve stayed between us, y/n.”
you freeze.
you’ve never heard him like this.
“your stupid friends are probably just jealous. are you that blind?”
that snaps something in you.
“don’t talk about my friends like that. they said you’re the problem. so fuck off.”
you turn to leave but
he grabs your wrist and pulls you back.
“i think the only stupid thing is them finding out you tried to hit on one of their boyfriend. don’t you think?”
your breath catches.
“jungwon, what the fuck are you talking about?”
he leans in slightly. “you really think i don’t know things about you? i have connections. guys gossip more than you think.”
his grip tightens just a bit.
“wouldn’t it be embarrassing if people found out? or even the whole class?”
you shove him back, anger rising.
“that’s taken out of context. you don’t know anything.”
he doesn’t move.
“people don’t care about truth. they care about rumors.”
a pause.
“so we still have a deal, right?”
your eyes locked in.
“y/n, listen. it’s not that deep. no kissing, no making out, no sex”
you could believe what you just heard.
he pauses, watching your reaction like he’s trying to measure how far you’ll go.
“you can ignore me, hate me, whatever… just not in public. there, you act like it’s real.”
you stare at him.
“you’re unbelievable,” you say quietly.
jungwon shrugs, like this is the most normal thing in the world. “it’s simple.”
“nothing about you is simple.”
a beat of silence hangs between you two.
then he leans back slightly, voice lower now, less sharp than before.
“just for the trip, y/n. after that, it’s over.”
“i hope those 5 days will pass fast as possible”
you stormed out of the door still couldn’t believe what just happened.
but you know, you need to play along or else you will loose all your friends…
—
next morning.
you head downstairs to get breakfast, still half asleep, when suddenly
arms wrap around your waist from behind.
“good morning, babe.”
your body freezes for a second.
you turn your head slightly. jungwon.
you force yourself to relax, then hug him back just enough for it to look real.
“how much i hate you,” you whisper into his ear with a smile plastered on your face so nobody notices.
around you, people immediately start staring. whispering. pointing. of course.
you already hate it.
he just laughs like it’s entertaining. “slept well?”
you nod.
you both sit down and eat like nothing is weird about this situation.
then
a hand on your thigh.
you nearly choke.
“jungwon.”
“what? play along.” he glances at you, amused. “why are you so red?”
“i am not red,” you hit his arm. “it’s just… very warm here.”
he snorts. “yeah. like 10 degrees. super warm.”
you glare at him.
“never had a boyfriend, i see.”
“fuck off.”
he laughs again, then leans in slightly. “i’ve got the best plan. tomorrow we go clubbing. that’s how we make her jealous. wear something tight. we’ll kill it.”
your expression drops. “what are you planning to do? remember the rules.”
he pushes your shoulder lightly, still laughing. “you pervert. i would never break the rules.”
⸻
after breakfast, you go jogging with your friends. luckily, they’ve already moved on from the jungwon situation.
you stop at a matcha shop.
you’re about to order when you glance at the cashier.
oh.
he’s hot. fucking hot.
fluffy brown hair, glasses, and somehow unfairly pretty hands. they are so veiny.
you order, trying to act normal, but he keeps looking at you while making the drink.
“y/n, he’s staring at you,” your friend whispers.
you feel your face heat up.
when you’re about to leave, he stops you.
“hey… can I get your number? you look cute.”
no cockiness. no attitude. just genuine.
you hesitate for a second… then type your number into his phone.
your friends immediately start cheering behind you.
and for the first time that day
you don’t think about jungwon.
—
evening.
you guys plan to go to the beach. grill marshmallows, sausages, just hang out around the fire.
you keep checking your phone, half-expecting a text from the matcha guy.
nothing.
instead
a message from jungwon.
“hey y/n wear my hoodie for the grill tonight. i’ll leave it in front of your door.”
you roll your eyes immediately.
“eww okay.”
⸻
you find the hoodie waiting outside your door.
and against your better judgment… you put it on.
it’s way too comfy.
and it smells good. annoyingly good. probably his perfume.
“of course it does,” you mumble.
⸻
at the beach, everyone sits in a circle around the fire.
you naturally end up next to jungwon.
and of course, your hands are already intertwined.
at first it’s just for show.
but then he starts doing things without thinking. lightly playing with your thumb. occasionally squeezing your hand a little tighter when he laughs.
your stomach twists.
not butterflies.
just… stomach ache.
yeah. definitely that.
suddenly your phone vibrates in your pocket.
you quickly reach for it.
it’s the matcha guy.
“heyyy i’m so sorry for texting this late. i was running the shop alone and was really stressed. i hope you’re doing well. btw my name is jake :)”
so his name is jake.
you smile at your phone without thinking.
jungwon notices immediately.
“what are you laughing at?” he asks, already reaching for your phone.
“who’s that?”
his voice is flat. no teasing this time.
you’ve heard this tone before and you don’t like it.
“chill, it’s just a guy i met earlier.”
he nods slowly.
but something feels off.
he’s not looking at you anymore.
not joking. not squeezing your hand like before.
just… quiet.
then suddenly, he pulls you closer.
your back hits his chest as his arms wrap around you.
he takes your phone and closes it.
“text him when you’re inside,” he says lowly, “not when i’m next to you.”
your heart skips.
you can feel his breath near your ear, his chin resting on your shoulder, his hoodie warm around you, that same woody scent hitting you again. soft, sweet, almost distracting.
and for some reason, you don’t move away.
“what the hell am i doing here” you thought to yourself.
—
next morning.
you barely slept. you were texting jake the whole night.
he’s funny in a way that doesn’t feel forced. easy to talk to. it just… clicks.
⸻
same routine.
you go downstairs and see jungwon.
he pulls you into a hug and kisses your forehead.
“you look tired. were you up all night?” he asks, slightly confused.
“damn… can you tell that?”
he lets out a small laugh
then it drops.
“you were texting jake the whole night, i see.”
what.
your head snaps up.
“how do you know?”
he shrugs, but his voice is flat. too calm.
“i know you, y/n.”
he steps back.
something about him feels… different today.
“what’s wrong with you?” you ask quietly.
⸻
breakfast is quiet.
too quiet.
you try to break it.
“so… today’s the big day, huh?”
“yeah. i’m excited.”
you hesitate. “can i ask you something?”
his eyes flick to you.
“do you really want to do this? do you want her that badly?”
a pause.
“i don’t know what i want,” he says finally. “that’s something you need to understand about me. even i don’t get myself sometimes.”
his gaze shifts between your eyes.
“let’s start easy. do you still love her?”
your stomach tightens. why were you scared of his response?
“i can’t love someone who betrayed me like that.”
silence again.
he pushes his chair back.
“i’m going upstairs.”
but as he passes you, he lightly ruffles your hair.
soft. almost careless.
like he didn’t just say something heavy enough to sit in your chest.
and you’re left sitting there, realizing
he really doesn’t know what he wants.
—
the big evening.
you actually wore the dress he told you to wear—black, slit on the side, a little sparkly but not too much.
your hair is curled, makeup done properly for once.
you feel… good. too good.
you take a selfie and send it to jake.
read.
typing…
“that’s different from yesterday morning when i saw you in joggers 😂 you look really good, where are you going?”
you smile.
“to a club with my class, the one near the beach.”
“oh i know that one. i wish i could come but i’m out of town :( stay safe and be careful ❤️”
your stomach does that annoying flip again.
you don’t overthink it.
you hear a knock.
⸻
you open the door.
jungwon.
“are you rea—”
he stops mid-sentence.
his eyes travel over you, slow.
you roll your eyes. “yes, i’m ready. lmao.”
you grab his arm and pull him out.
“guess we’ll rock it.”
he doesn’t answer right away.
he just keeps looking at you like he forgot how to speak.
⸻
at the club.
music loud, lights flashing, bodies everywhere.
couples everywhere too. you immediately hate it.
jungwon keeps a hand on your waist the entire time. once you enter the crowd, he pulls you even closer.
and there she is.
his ex.
with someone else.
you feel his grip tighten slightly.
great. mission started.
you turn back to him, slipping your arms around his neck. he rests his hands on your hips.
too close. too natural.
you look at each other.
“you look nice, y/n,” he says quietly. “i’m serious.”
you smile, trying to ignore how your chest tightens.
his gaze keeps dropping. then lifting. like he can’t decide where to look.
he looks away first.
“y/n—fuck, they’re making out.”
you start to turn around but suddenly
“i’m sorry,”
“for breaking rule one and two.”
before you can react he grabs your chin and turns your face back to him.
his lips meeting yours. they felt so soft and warm. he got passionate with it.
you are feeling too many emotions rn.
he grabs you even harder and starts putting his tongue inside your mouth. you run your hands trough his hair and grab it.
fuck it feels so good.
you forget the whole world around you. you are feeling his tongue exploring your mouth.
you quietly moan. quite enough him to realize. you feel him smirking trough the kiss.
fuck that’s so hot.
you both gasp for air and staring in each others eyes.
why are you so into him?
“you did so good” jungwon compliments you.
you melted.
—
hours pass.
you’re still not over it.
a make out session with jungwon.
of all people.
you try to distract yourself. laughing with your friends, dancing, pretending everything feels normal again.
but it doesn’t.
and the worst part?
you haven’t seen him since.
⸻
you’re tired now. done for the night.
you step outside the club, cool air hitting your face, and reach for your phone.
you hesitate.
then you call him.
calling jungwon…
declined.
you stare at the screen.
maybe accidental.
you try again.
calling jungwon…
declined again.
your stomach drops a little.
“okay… what is happening?”
you try a third time
but stop.
because you hear him.
his voice.
and a girl’s.
you pause.
slowly, you walk around the side of the building.
and there he is.
jungwon.
with his ex.
talking. close.
too close.
your breath catches.
your heart starts beating faster but not in the way it did earlier.
this one hurts.
they were just talking.
no yelling. no arguing.
no “why did you kiss her”
no “why did you cheat on me”
just… normal.
and then—
he laughs.
that sound hits you harder than anything else.
your chest tightens.
did the kiss mean nothing to him?
you feel your eyes sting, tears forming before you can stop them.
you turn around quickly and walk away before they can see you.
⸻
back at the hotel, everything feels heavier.
quiet. empty.
“he really doesn’t know what he wants…”
you wipe your makeup off, not even caring if it smudges, and change into your pajamas.
your friends aren’t back yet.
good.
you don’t feel like talking.
you grab your phone and call jake.
you just need a distraction. something… easy.
calling jake…
no answer.
you stare at the screen for a second, then toss your phone onto the bed.
you curl up under the blanket, facing the wall.
“i hate you, jungwon.”
and this time
you actually mean it.
—
the third morning.
you’re staring at the ceiling, replaying last night over and over again.
jungwon… talking to her.
like nothing ever happened.
no anger. no tension.
just… normal.
your chest tightens.
then—
the kiss.
your breath hitches a little and you squeeze your eyes shut.
damn it. your knees feel weak just thinking about it.
but then the anger comes right back.
“he’s such a jerk… he’s always been.”
you sit up, grabbing your phone.
that’s it. you’re done.
you’ll ignore him today. completely.
no fake dating, no playing along, nothing.
he used you. played with you. and you let him.
never again.
ding. you look at your phone.
jake.
your mood instantly shifts.
you open the message.
“i’m so sorry, i didn’t see your call yesterday. drinks on me today?”
you smile without even realizing it.
and just like that your heart feels a little lighter.
—
you decided to skip breakfast and go straight to the matcha shop. you wanted to avoid seeing jungwon as much as you can today.
jake lights up the moment he sees you.
“omg y/n, glad you came. i’m really sorry about yesterday.”
“it’s okay,” you smile. “it wasn’t that urgent.”
you grabbed some drinks and head out for a walk while he’s on break.
and somehow… it just flows.
conversation after conversation, no awkward pauses, no forcing anything.
you laugh more than you expected. way more.
time passes too fast.
with jake, everything feels easy.
⸻
ding.
your phone.
you glance down.
jungwon: “y/n where are you? haven’t seen you since yesterday”
you lock your phone.
jungwon: “did i leave you speechless cause of the kiss yesterday hahaha”
you roll your eyes.
what a jerk.
“who’s bothering you?” jake asks, noticing your expression.
“oh, nothing. just my stupid group chat,” you lie. “they’re planning something for tonight.”
he nods, then smiles slightly.
“honestly, that sounds boring. what if we hang out tonight instead? after i close the shop.”
you don’t even hesitate.
“yeah. i’d like that.”
and you really do.
⸻
eventually, his break ends.
you stop in front of the shop.
“see you tonight, y/n,” he says, his voice softer now.
his eyes linger on yours… then briefly on your lips. your cheeks heat up.
you hug him, a bit longer than you planned.
his arms tighten slightly around you.
then a quick kiss on your cheek. and the smirk he gave you before turning around?
dangerous.
and somehow you are really excited for tonight.
tbc…
