Blue Basin is in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. In the bright light of the blazing afternoon sun the walls looked more green than blue. The rock gets its color from celadonite. The color is closer to lichen green than anything else I have ever seen. I forgot to add the next two photos to the tree lichens of the high desert post. I also forgot to name it that. The next picture is of some kind of cones I found on a juniper. Junipers cones are usually berries so I'm not sure what is going on there. I asked the OSU extension service.
***Update*** It turns out they are galls, Juniper Tip Midge cause the very cone-like galls to form.
I couldn't resist the lichen infestation on the roof of this little kiosk in Cannon Beach and last is a bench at Cistus Nursery which I photograph every time I go there. Lichen on!
