he looks different. mature, grown into himself. still handsome. she still thinks about him with fondness sometimes, it's hard not to. even now, after so much time has passed them by, she feels the urge to reach out with affection, tangle her hands in his hair. "am i allowed to say i missed you?"

Spirit decides to pregame with Vanya, leaving the two men who've never met before to arrive separately and solo. The girls get to the restaurant early and tipsy - dolled up and, quite frankly, beautiful. Vanya catches a few pairs of eyes.

Vanya helps Spirit order a wine bottle for the table - or, at least, the people at the table drinking. If she's upset about seeing Deco again, she's being a remarkable sport. Still, Spirit feels compelled to fill the air with idle and anxious chatter.

"Deco's a total nerd, and your guy does, like, actual normal human work. Real work. Together, they could do any job ever and make us all the money in the world. Isn't that exciting?"

not a movie with her in it. just a horror movie, which he considers to be basically the same thing.

august moves aside his bowl of soup, appetite curtailed. he grabs a few napkins, hands them over. afterwards, socks pad across floor as he walks to imogen’s side. (he, too, has hoped life could be different. free of incessant stresses.)

he may lack the power to alter life, but he can lend his support. that must be worth something. it has to be.

a heartfelt murmur: “ do you want a hug? ”
