Davy is almost eight years old.
Harris bent first, then broke. Davy was almost four when Harris used Spirit and another PI and his own connections to find where Juniper and Flynn relocated. Davy was five when Burns and Lila finally made the drive there (still uncertain whether his papers would be good enough to allow him to fly).
Spirit didn't come, but — things were different. Burns insisted, Lila insisted.
And Davy was almost seven by the time Spirit and Burns made the drive together, but things continued to — become different. Spirit doesn't yell so much anymore. She doesn't want Juniper to hurt anymore, doesn't want Flynn to hurt anymore (tells herself she never did, but we all know that isn't true). She wants to watch someone like them but not like them grow up in a house with four walls and a door Davy can open, can close, can lock, can use to the see world or keep their parents happy and safe.
They're doing Christmas together, Burns and Spirit and Lila, Flynn and Juniper and Davy.
"I only got a present for the kid," Spirit whispers to Flynn after their chaotic but ultimately happy arrival. She sounds strung out and guilty.
