Mercy, in her thousand and umpteenth time-loop, watched Haven fall, the avalanche careening towards her with gravity, fell through into an old storage room as the snow and ice fell as waves in rolling tides as if a tsunami, covering her once-and-hundredth home, all sound muffled and forgotten save the echoing of Solas' last words-
"Itha'ar Ma'sal". He swore. He swore. "I will see you again."
And that ever "Dareth shiral".
Farewell. Safe journey.
And what had she said beside the trebuchet? Tel'em'silaimah?
Do not forget me?
As the wolves howled across the mountain slopes, as she found her way out of the tunnels and into the drifts - snowblind in a white-out. Cold fires spaced miles apart from a long-gone would-be fucking Inquisition?
And Comfort, so rare a spirit. So like Compassion - Cole. So elated to find her, and so stricken that she set her feet in the wrong direction. Despite the howling drawing her back. To where the sky had been held back. Tarasyl'an Te'las.
In so many lives, she had answered that call. A song led by the Dread Wolf long before the Chantry raised their voices to claim the dawn would come.
Battered, bruised, broken. Mercy sought only the counsel of spirits. The ones they called Gods at Stone-Bear Hold. Where the one called Sun-Hair held as Thane. Though Mercy couldn't tell if the warrior's hair was as red as hers, or only set aflame in a story she'd heard too many times.
Too many times.
Briefly, Mercy spared a moment to feel guilt. For how Leliana, Josephine- her compatriots and advisors and general alike would mourn. Spitefully, she hoped Solas hurt. For even a second. That he'd panic for losing her - his - this stupid mark. Even then, she knew it was only hubris. The spirits would not let him think her dead while she trudged on. Though they might grant her an hour. An hour longer than the unmeasured time she'd lain unconscious in the rubble and snowdrifts before trudging the same path she'd always walked-
That is, until she deviated.
As Mercy could attest, Comfort had been glad to find her again.
But as it caught on, Mercy couldn't help but to grin.
"Varal'ma Del Vir!" The spirit shouted into the wind. In Mercy's ear. In her head, where it resided. You Are Going The Wrong Way!
Of course, Mercy thought. Because she knew where Skyhold lay. So she walked another path. Gladly. "Intentionally!" and laughed.
