I just watched the first season of Made in Abyss and beware for spoilers but I have some thoughts about it:
The mother of a protagonist is always a beautiful mom with long curly red/blond hair, startling eyes and generally a fiery personality; who bared a child in times of war/hardships and who’s praised for choosing their child over X; and who either dies or abandons her child because reasons. Ex:
Lily Evans has long thick red hair, startling almond green eyes (and implied long eyelashes), has a strong personality, implied great innate power and dies to save her child.
Bernadette/Bernie Hedgehog is a beautiful woman with blond hair (yes) and blue eyes, who bore her children during war and, because a foreteller came to give her predictions, decided to abandon her children on the doorsteps of strangers (thank god there was no pedophile or child trade there) so she can get her power back over “evil” and will meet her children later.
Lyza/Raiza The Annihilator is a beautiful woman with long curly blond hair and startling blue eyes, with a strong personality and with great talent for exploring the Abyss, going as far as being a White Whistle Delver; who travelled while pregnant and gave birth in the Abyss, who got back up and gave her child to an orphanage so she could continue delving, and who now supposedly waits for her child to come join her, though we don’t know if she died meanwhile.
The protagonist always has startling green eyes. All have a knack to put themselves in danger repeatedly through their recklessness. Ex:
Harry’s eyes are wide and bright green, thanks to his mom, though he most ressembles his father.
Rico’s eyes are green, thanks to her dad, though she most ressembles her mother.
Percy Jackson’s eyes are green, disturbingly ressembles Harry.
Even Firestar is again a hero with red fur and green eyes.
(I’ve never seen so many people with green eyes. There must be a reason: do green eyes give some sort of superiority?)
It’s not everywhere we see a protagonist be a girl and the second protagonist be a boy (though robotic). Pleasant surprise! I only hoped she’d be less apologetic and less naive, but since she’s still a child it’s okay. Plus she’s resourceful and brave.
There are too many sex jokes for me. The ones made to Regu are the most unnerving. They are 12, please... not here!
Made in Abyss dealt with the matter of euthanasia, balls of steel this anime.
I’d have preferred Regu not blushing or be so many times embarrassed, or the children less touching each other to the other’s apparent uncomfort.
Regu has skin with darker tone, nice! I don’t believe I saw this a lot in anime.
