on the bill: just lions, animal eyes, bear & moose
context: monday night, just lions ep release, animal themed free show.
crowd: very young, local.
another local band, bear & moose, had a nice garage, beachy feel that reminds me of a harder growlers. they used lots of beachy high reverb guitar riffs with intense echoing of vocals that gave their sound a funky, 60's surfer feel.
their sound was less beach and more mathematical with rock vocals. the singer's voice was very 90's/ early 2000's alternative rock for me. the screams were gruff, but in a good way, and balanced out the precise instrumentals. although their recorded stuff sounds less 90s gruff rock and more folky.
i had noticed animal eyes drew the biggest crowd of the night. once they left the stage, the crowd noticeably shrunk.
they rocked and they looked like they had a rockin' time rocking.
so it was just lions ep release and there was excitement and celebration in the air. they gave their ep out for free, which was cool, and when i grabbed one i noticed that they all were in a hand made paper case that was painted with handwritten lyrics and song titles.
their music is good, rock with a light danceable feel to it. in the end, i liked their recorded stuff more than their live performance.
