The absolute mental breakdown i can imagine snotlout having after the others realise they fought him in the kill ring. The scene my head made is bad lol. Like full on crying with snot bc they keep bringing it up and its RAW.
i dont think he'd get better but boy would the guilt hit THEM for messing up his bones and psyche for ages.
The emotional drama of him having to heal his knuckles and leg while his friends are unaware its their fault is wild. Im deeply curious about early post movie pre series stuff. ie hiccups reaction to snotlout being alive (especially if you subscribe to the hiccup snotlpit cousins idea) id like to think that the villiage threw a 'yay snotlouts alive too' party. just cause he seems like he needs a win in this au.
Also how would that affect boneknapper and gift of the night fury? Obvs he wouldn't go to the island cause hes too young but im curious if hookfangs temp abandonment was worse for him bc of what their dynamic is. And also if hes jealous of hookfangs babies or if they are his siblings now.
AUGHHHHHHH
Though based on how the reveal goes (since it happens in "The Heather Report II") there's more pressing issues AND Snotlout's more upset that they know he can turn into a dragon. Straight up sulking on the way back to Berk, one hand on the hide folded in his lap.
Hehehehe 🤭 It doesn't hit Astrid right away but when the realization hits it HITS. Unfortunately Snotlout's acting about as awful as in canon Riders because blustering over the trauma is the only coping mechanism he has at that point, and his obnoxiousness makes it hard to feel bad for him :|
OHOHOHO no but fr. Since Snotlout emerges from the woods after the vikings get back to Berk but before Hiccup wakes up, his arrival happens before the movie ends! Technically. He stumble-limps his way out of the trees, gets spotted, gets swarmed by a small group, can't answer any of their questions because he is dissociating, and by the time Spitelout's dragged over by another viking the exhaustion hits Snotlout in full and he faints. So he doesn't even get to experience his father hugging him in relief :[
(Spitelout then immediately tries to bluster because noooooo he didn't just tear up at the sight of his son alive what are you talking about. He's a Real Man and Real Men don't feel piddly emotions like relief because they don't get worried in the first place!
He says, while carrying his unconscious son straight to Gothi, the monstrous nightmare at his heels.)
Though the timing does mean that prior to waking up in their homes Hiccup and Snotlout were probably being treated side by side :]
(Toothless and Hookfang are sizing each other up from across the room before they're inevitably banished out of it for the crime of Getting In The Way. Then Hookfang gets swarmed by the arena dragons all asking where Screaming Claw is. Toothless does not listen to this conversation, as he's too busy focusing on Hiccup.)
Hiccup's reaction is so great actually. He wakes up in that little inbetween time where Snotlout's still kinda out of it and definitely dissociating so when they cross paths Hiccup greets him, then stops to LOUDLY double take ("SNOTLOUT?") while Snotlout is just there. Existing. Feeling like a stranger in his own skin because he got used to being a dragon and now has to get used to being human again. He is sooo out of it that first week or so after the final battle it's crazy. The twins theorize that he's a ghost and keep trying to prove it, and this manages to prod him into regaining a bit of his pre-movie attitude through the sheer power of annoyance.
And then not long after that Spitelout goes back to being Spitelout and, in an insistent effort to get Snotlout to stop "moping like a prissy girl" starts pushing Snotlout to get back to how he was before. And Snotlout being Snotlout puts on all the bravado and ego we see on him in Riders in an effort to ignore and downplay the trauma. And it works! (It does not)(it only bottles things up)(and lets them fester)(but a lot of the ego is genuine)
Okay so since Boneknapper and GotNF both happen before Riders of Berk, they don't really change much at all, since Snotlout's buried the hide in the mess of his room and doesn't really mess with it until Riders. And he doesn't get jealous of Hookie's babies because he's too busy cooing over how adorable they are!
