Chuuya + Cooking Headcanons
considering his past and sheep days, cooking and chuuya are furthest away from one another. for a long time it's not even a concept he would consider. if they're hungry, they'd steal the food, why is some of members claiming it needs to be 'cooked' now? and with sheep members less good at combat staying back to cook (only when needed), chuuya learns a new thing.
he watches with fascination when someone's cooking, though he doesn't let this show on his face. it is impressive how much fire and water can do to certain food, and how it depends on the time and the intensity.
years pass and when he has become a member of the port mafia, he orders take out most of the time. he has money and so little time to spare for cooking – not to mention it is still something he doesn't know how to do exactly.
a moment of weakness, a little too much time in his hands and that is when he starts to give cooking a try. soon enough, it turns into a hobby when he has the time. looking for the perfect recipe to craft for the evening, open a bottle of wine to savor while chopping, cutting, stirring and watching how individual ingredients turn into something amazing... he is fascinated. and the day he learns you can marinade certain products in wine beforehand? maybe he has died and went to heaven...
and as much as he enjoys this little hobby, he is... not very good at it. more often than not, he will adjust the stove to make the cooking process "fasten". why should it matter at which heat you cook it, isn't that the same fire? (no, he is absolutely not impatient, it's the cooking methods that aren't suitable to his skillset...)
and a little tinkering with cooking, he is met with baking. This, he finds more enjoyable. there isn't much need to play with fire. you just mix everything in a bowl and put in the oven. it's easy, it's simple... until he tries baking cookies, then tries using yeast for the first time.
and as much a disaster as the results are the first few tries, seeing the dough double, triple in size, and smell more wonderful than before – chuuya couldn't care any less if he screwed up the baking process.
few nights when chuuya invites you over, he cooks for you himself. even when serving the food, he keeps blabbering about how awful he is at it and just let him know if you need to call an ambulance. one bite in and you find all his words meaningless; maybe not a masterchef, sure, but it is good, it is from his hands and he has made it just for you, that's all that matters. then comes the dessert and it's otherworldly.
evenings spent with him begin to happen a lot earlier. chuuya realizes he likes to cook (and bake) with you a lot more, he loves it. few things that didn't make much sense to him when it comes to cooking, you help out. he still prefers your cooking over his though. but desserts, you leave to him. maybe it's the way he is doing it with a never ending fascination each time that he has stopped worrying whether it's good and started to all of his love to the bowl.
