i am sitting on a review on the expanse but my gist would be: extremely efficient prose, great pacing, storylines feel like rube goldberg machines, likely as a result of the authors taking a lot of their cues from George RR Martin's story "garden" technique + the authors kind of swapping off with each other on each chapter. (you read enough eventually you can kind of tell when one author tags the next one in, it's like a mini-game inside the stories). shocking lack of internality for the characters. probably a result again of the authors starting with screenplays. plays well with how they slowly unfold the characters out to the reader, but it does ultimately have a more screenplay feeling than most books. havent seen the tv show but would not be surprised if it was better than the books, it seems more like the authors home turf. still an unbelievable space odyssey. would rate it better than the dune series, which is actually a ridiculously high bar to beat.
