Yes she is! or at least 2007 Karen is, because people change a lot over a decade. But she did say that A LOT of Vanessa was based off who she was at the time, how reckless and confident (sometimes overly so?) Vanessa is, etc. A lot of the performers was poured into their performances and it really shows, how natural it feels.
