“—y-yeah, kid.”
His answer couldn’t have been further from the truth.
Graves’ reply was strained. He struggled for breath, his entire body tense and shaking. His heart was threatening to beat through his chest, the rapid tha-thump pounding all to loudly against his head. He could even feel tears stinging at his cheeks.
His thoughts raced
fuck this. fuck this. fuck everything about this.
He glanced around the room, completely wide-eyed for, before looking to the doorway. He at first doubted if Shilo’s small, silhouetted figure was even real, or if it was a similar hallucination like the dark, sinister one he’d seen looming over the side of the small, raggedy mattress that lay upon the floor when he’d first frantically shot up and let out that terrified scream.
It had vanished in an instant, of course, but his subconscious had kick started his sense into overdrive, causing him to be absolutely terror- stricken over an invisible, nonexistent threat.
"You're lying." The response was quiet, and calm - not a hint of anger hidden behind it. Shilo took a slow step into the room before looking around, scanning it. Knowing the company he kept, she didn't want to assume he had been alone. For she hadn't heard anything in the next room over before his scream, but that meant close to nothing. Graverobbers were silent types, it wouldn't have been surprising to see another figure in the corner, but thankfully they were alone.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Tilting her head slightly, the slender girl continued closing the space between herself and his bed before stopping mere inches from the mattress. He was still on the ground, and while she could have joined him on the bed - she hesitated. Maybe he really didn't want to talk about it and would kick her out. Their friendship - if you could even call it that - were tentative at best most days, and she didn't want to push him. He was doing enough just by letting her stay with him.
