#Repost @michaelfmoore with @get_repost ・・・ Rick Snyder, the criminal governor who poisoned Flint, has less than one hour left as the Governor of Michigan. Between 11am and noon today, the newly-elected Governor, Democrat Gretchen Whitmer, will be sworn in on the Capitol steps in Lansing. If there is any justice, one of her first acts will be to ask the new attorney general to arrest him. That may not happen—the world doesn’t run the way I’d like it to—but attention must be paid, and this soon-to-be ex-Governor must answer for his actions of forcing a majority-black city to drink poisoned water for years. More urgently, though, Gov. Whitmer must replace all the pipes in Flint — from the main lines to the rotted interior plumbing in every single home. There can be no delay. Some replacement is taking place, but there can be no half-measures. How the New Democrats in Lansing respond to the Flint Water Crisis will go a long way to restoring the faith of the electorate which abandoned the Dems in Michigan in 2016. They came back out for the Midterms in November, but they will stay home again in 2020 if the Democrats fail to fix this one criminal act by the Republicans. Gov. Whitmer— I implore you to not waste a day in resolving this tragedy. We are all counting on you. —- #flint #justiceforflint #water #justice #newyear #resist https://www.instagram.com/p/BsGlZHBgkl1/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=4083aw5gzmbl

Michigan residents to Lansing: We don’t trust you to do the basics
3/21/2017 - Bridge Magazine
“In 125 community conversations with about 2,650 people conducted from March through December in 2016, a strong majority reported “low” or “very low” level of trust in state government's handling of K-12 and higher education, services for low-income residents, and in the state’s ability to foster economic growth, protect public health or the environment.
“It doesn't matter who we get elected to represent us, because they're not there to represent us. I find it mind boggling to try to answer these questions in a calm way. It’s not possible because there’s too much sorrow and pain and expense in how we’re operating the state.” - Community Conversation participant “

Michigan Ends Water Subsidies To Flint Despite Mayor's Opposition
3/1/2017 - NPR
“"We have seniors that are already making decisions between buying medication or paying their water bill," as one Flint resident told Michigan Radio's Steve Carmody.
For about a year, Carmody says, the state paid about two-thirds of residents' water bills, spending more than $40 million "to pay for water that didn't meet federal quality standards dating back to 2014, when the city's drinking water source was switched to the Flint River."Recent tests showed levels in the water to be within federal limits, prompting the state to end the subsidy on the last day of February.“
...
“Flint's mayor, Karen Weaver, has said the city was caught off guard. She said state officials promised the payments would continue through March 31. "This is a trust issue, that's what it is," she told reporters last month. "State officials say one thing, and then do another."
Michigan officials advise residents to continue filtering their water "due to the chance for disruption to pipes as the city replaces lead service lines."
Weaver wants to see state subsidies continue until the water is "tap drinkable" without a filter, as Carmody tells our Newscast Unit.“

Crowd shouts “Do your job!” at state environmental agency at hearing on Nestle water withdrawal
4/13/2017 - Michigan Radio
“We need the DEQ to step up and do its job and when I’m talking to people out in the hallway they’re telling me ‘well this isn’t our responsibility, you’ve got to go to your elected officials.’ No, you have been entrusted with this responsibility from the federal government and you need to do your job,” Orduno said.
At that point the crowd got to its feet, shouting “Do your job! Do your job!”
“Okay, thank you, people. We hear you. We hear you. We hear you,” said MDEQ’s Phil Roycraft, who works at the Cadillac office.
MDEQ says it cannot consider public support for or opposition to a permit when making a decision. The agency has received more than 50,000 comments on the proposed permit so far.
