Your "Buzz" Will Connect You...
I'm going to try to keep this brief, but it definitely makes a point that I talk to independent artists about all the time.
I just read an article that said if you and win 1 fan, you can win 1,000. I think there's some truth to this. Another way I've heard this concept was in college. If you have a question, chances are 5 other people have that same question, so don't be afraid to ask the question. If just 1 person likes your music, then there will be others that do also.
On your musical journey, as long as you stay persistent, true fans will beget more fans. That's just how it is. And if you stay in the game, it becomes exponential. As this happens, it will connect you with other forces in your music of the same style/genre, etc. It just will. I've seen it time and time again.
To bring this point home, when it comes to the music industry (labels, managers, agents) noticing you, I can promise you that if you begin to repeatedly fill rooms with your fans all over town (Nashville particularly), you won't have to make a single phone call. There are relationships in place already that will begin to turn heads your way and people will be calling you.
You have to get there and that's where the work is. I will never forget a quote that one artist who was an "overnight success" (no such thing) told me - "Trinidad, our goals was just to outlast the competition". I hope you get the point.
Here's what inspired this post and makes my point. I've been following Justin Sandercoe and Peter Thorn on Youtube separately and wondered if they'd ever connect. Their successes finally connected them (check the subscription numbers on their Youtube channels). I saw the video (http://youtu.be/Kt70cvyb7IU) on Bobby Owsinski's blog post today (http://bobbyowsinski.blogspot.com/).
On a side note, Bobby always has interesting posts.
