Hawtdawgman is pretty fun to draw but I wanna talk about that new Captain Spirit episode. Only minor spoilers below, but still.
First of all, the game is free this is pretty great because I do believe LiS2 needs something to separate it from LiS1 and BtS, since it’s going to be a different storyline. Captain Spirit is the weakest episode in the entire LiS series but for free I’m not complaining too much. My main complaint is weak voice acting of the main character. (He’s a younger character and it’s probably hard to find good talent at that age.)
Captain Spirit had a neat open level design to it. While I’m not a fan of open worlds in gaming too much, (I would prefer good level design with some load screens, over walking for a while to get where I’m going because of weak area in world design.) open worlds aren’t inherently bad and plenty of people enjoy them so if that’s the direction they are going for LiS2, I’m excited to see how it’s implemented and hopefully I won’t dislike it too much.
The level design of Captain Spirit was really good with the only problems I found were the phone combo puzzle and the padlock puzzle. Both were very weak and I couldn’t find an intended solution for either, though I did get around both of them.
The interaction to end the game came out of nowhere and it probably should’ve been telegraphed to the player a bit better. The ending was pretty neat as it was teased throughout the episode.
Captain Spirit’s story and characters were great and I loved a lot of it and often related to certain parts. (Even though I think Farewell was better nostalgia-wise.)
The biggest pro was that the game didn’t crash for me (except when closing the game) and that’s huge considering LiS1 and BtS do on my computer. I’m buying LiS2 no matter what but I hope I’ll be able to play it without crashing. I’m very excited for LiS2!, and I’ll almost definitely be doing some art for it when it does come out in September.
