Yin’s prod for more info earned a wordless whine in response. Mikey dug the front of his foot into the ground, arms folding behind his back as he rocked his weight from one leg to the other.
He wasn’t ready, or willing, to admit it yet. Couldn’t she just read his mind and know what was wrong? She was the only one he could go to. His brothers would probably rat him out to dad - pun intended. They knew the rule he was breaking.
Mention of Donnie’s tech made him shrink down into his shell, gaze nervously darting down and away. Bullseye. “ Well . . . not me, exactly. Aheheh. See, um, ” he rubbed his arm, sinking down even further into his shell. Only his eyes were barely visible now.
“ I found a robo t-hex pet thingy and snuck it into the lair. Dad said I’m not allowed to have electronic pets buuuuut I’ve been hiding him. He maayyyy have wandered into Don’s room and taken a bite out of, well, nearly everything. ” The devastation in his expression was evident. Mikey was mortified. “ Donnie’s going to be SO mad. I didn’t mean for it to happen . . . ” He felt guilty for letting his lil dino pal slip away and have an unsupervised feast on his brother’s beloved beepy-ma-thingys.
“ I don’t want them to take away my new lil buddy but . . . when Dee finds out, we’re doomed. I don’t know how to fix this. ” Repercussions for this felt like a tidal wave, growing closer and closer with each second. All Mikey wanted to do was tuck into his shell and hide but he knew that wasn’t the ninja way.
It’d also make things WAY worse.
He was gonna have to face the music, one way or another, but maybe Yin could help him soften the blow. “ Can you help? ”
The serial-tech-muncher peeked out from behind Mikey’s leg and beamed up at Yin, offering her a digital chirp in greeting.
