what do you think about the cup/juntxsi stuff?
I honestly expected this to happen because let’s be real, this is the CUP we’re talking about, and they did promise not to agree to Mas being President.
Regardless, I’m still pissed. Listen, whatever my personal political view is, and regardless of what I voted, the main issue I find here is that they made us go around like idiots: they had an entire nation on hold during the holidays, for crying out loud. We were submerged in the biggest political cliffhanger ever. Not only did they organize a vote that felt almost ridiculous and absurd when the result came out as a tie (after having redone it a couple of times), they also kept us on hold only to end up concluding what they had already stated before. If you ask me, they could’ve just said no in the first place, and we could’ve saved ourselves all of these shenanigans and childish disputes.
What really bothers me, though, goes beyond this childish banter. What bothers me is the image the rest of the country (Spain) and the international world is getting from this will-they-won’t-they tug-and-pull relationship. We’ve already voted so many times, and we’ve already determined over and over what we want, and the people in charge --the people who promised to take us there, the people who stated they were willing to do anything to make independence possible-- cannot seem to fucking get to an agreement. They have the same objective, but different ways to come about it, and I respect that. I respect that as long as the bigger cause is still the most important thing. And the CUP’s attitude doesn’t seem to be reflecting that.
If you ask me, both parties, regardless of their differences, should be making the biggest effort they can. They should put aside what differentiates them in order to accomplish the bigger goal --the one we long for and have been longing for ever since we can remember. Instead? They’re giving the other parties that aren’t pro-independence (Ciutadans, PSC, PP...) leverage to almost make fun of us and ridicule us, making the rest of the Spanish population believe that this isn’t half as serious as it actually is. Because that’s what it looks like.
It’s the nation’s worst game of “if he plays, we’re not playing.”
Moreover, what kind of message are we sending the other countries who are unsure about whether our independence will be favorable or not? “Well these guys can’t even decide what President to name, how are they going to rule an independent state?”
So yes, I’m angry. I understand each party has their difference in opinions, and I respect their reasons for not wanting Mas as President (hell, I probably wouldn’t want him as President for a very long time). But I find it’s in times like this where both parties have to put their best efforts in trying to take a step forwards, and it seems like only JxSi has been trying --what with them constantly coming up with other ideas and other plans, even though they have the majority.
We’re going to have to vote? Again? And what if the results aren’t enough for them to reach an agreement? Will we have to vote again? Are we going to be stuck in this endless voting spiral? If we keep this up, we’re going to end up being a huge joke, and no one is going to take our claim seriously.
It’s almost ridiculous. They’re adults, for God’s sake.
