I saw K1 uploaded the fights from there 11/03 show to youtube, so I figured I'd watch KANA's fight first because I fully expected it to be another KO from her. To my surprise, that doesn't happen at all. I'm not familiar with this Kotomi girl, but she deserves major credit for pulling off this massive upset here. Unfortunately for her it was a non-title fight, so KANA is still the champion, but it seems obvious that a rematch for the belt is in order.

K1 World MAX 70kg FINAL spoilers
What a journey it's been for Stoyan Koprivlenski! I feel like he's a fighter whose record doesn't tell the whole story. Back in 2022 he lost a very close fight for the GLORY Lightweight Championship to Tyjani Beztati and then got robbed of a decision against KAITO in Japan. He returns to Japan and gets upset by a relative unknown in Kacper Muszyński in the opening round of the K1 World Max 2024 tournament, but then in a lucky break for him, he gets put back in the tournament as a replacement for the injured Ouyang Feng and goes on to win the whole thing. Such a beautiful moment of retribution for the Bulgarian fighter.
Now he's got some interesting fights ahead of him. Maybe K1 gives him a shot at the champion, Ouyang Feng or sets up a rematch between him and Kacper Muszyński. With Tyjani Beztati moving up to the welterweight division in GLORY, we could also see Stoyan fight for their lightweight title again.
Congratulations to Stoyan Koprivlenski! Shout out to Bulgaria! LONG LIVE K1 WORLD MAX!!!
I finally figured out how to get the PS2 K1 kickboxing games to work on my emulator. Masato bless.
K1 Kickboxing Super Feathweight Champion of the World! Leona Fuckin' Pettas!
Man, I had only seen the highlights of the KANA vs Souris Manfredi fight, and based on that I assumed KANA just kicked her ass. Now I'm watching the fight and I see that Souris hurt KANA bad towards the end of the first round. KANA luckily fell into Souris, so it wasn't a knockdown, but then she falls when the referee breaks them up. She also eats a lot of uppercut and straights throughout the fight. Seeing this makes the KO even more impressive. KANA's such an absolute badass.
5 Kickboxing Matches I Want To See in 2022
Rico Verhoeven vs Antonio Plazibat
This match up is a no brainer. Both Verhoeven and Plazibat found great success in the ring during 2021 and are coming into 2022 with lots of momentum. What makes this match up especially interesting to me is the cardio of Plazibat. In his most recent title defenses we've seen vulnerability from Rico. He was dropped and looked to be badly hurt by Jamal Ben Saddik. However, when Saddik tried to take advantage of the situation he tired himself out looking for one big shot to end the fight. I imagine that if Plazibat puts Verhoeven in that same position he'll swarm him with combinations and can possibly find the KO. I don't see him gassing out, so Rico will have to be very careful to not let himself get put in a bad situation. That said, Rico Verhoeven has shown many times that he has the durability and heart of a champion. They don't call him The King of Kickboxing for nothing. It's an extremely compelling match up, for sure, and one that I think I hope is made sooner, rather than later.
Artem Vakhitov vs Sergej Maslobojev
The Russian ruler of GLORY's light heavyweight division, Artem Vakhitov had a pair of big fights in 2021, both against the formidable Alex Pereira. After losing a very competitive match the first time around, Vakhitov came back to win decisively and regain the light heavyweight Championship that he is synonymous with. With Pereira moving on to the UFC, we won't get to see a rubber match between the two. That doesn't mean there isn't any big fights left for the champ though. One that has been talked about is a fight with Luis Tavares. While that would certainly be a good fight, I personally would like to see Sergej Maslobojev get his shot. The heavy handed Lithuanian has some big wins under his belt, including a devastating KO of current K1 Heavyweight champion Roel Manaart and a pair of victories against current top heavyweight contender Antonio Plazibat. No disrespect to Artem Vakhitov or Luis Tavares, but I think Maslobojev may be the most dangerous man in GLORY's light heavyweight division right now and that he will present a huge challenge to whoever holds the belt when he gets his title shot.
Anissa Meksen vs Janet Todd
This fight is one I've wanted to see since it was announced that Anissa Meksen had signed to ONE Championship. Unfortunately, the former 2-time GLORY Super Bantamweight Champion only fought once last year. The ONE Championship Super Bantamweight Kickboxing champion Janet Todd made two appearances in the ring last year, but both fights were under Muay Thai rules. I really don't know what ONE is waiting for here. You've got two of the best female strikers in the world on your roster. Make the fight Chatri! What are you waiting for!?
Tenshin Nasukawa vs TAKERU
This is THE dream match in kickboxing. The two biggest stars in Japanese kickboxing. The consensus number 1 and 2 in the under 60kg category. It's been years in the making, but the fight has finally been set for June 2022. Six months is a long time to wait though and a lot can happen between now and then. I don't think it's a stretch to say that the whole kickboxing world wants to see this match happen. Let's hope that both men can stay healthy and sharp until then. It'd be an absolute tragedy if after all this time we still don't get to see this fight. I normally don't like to wish my time away, but in this case, June can't come soon enough!
GLORY Welterweight Championship Tournament
With Cedric Doumbe moving onto MMA, there's a void waiting to be filled atop the GLORY Welterweight division. I think it's the perfect time for a 4-man tournament to be made to decide who gets to wear the gold. In 2021 we saw the one name wonder HAMICHA put on two incredible performances, picking up dominant KO victories in both of them. We also saw former title challenge Alim Nabiev return to form with a win over a tough opponent in Troy Jones.
A bout between the current top contenders HAMICHA and Dmitry Menshikov was scheduled, but unfortunately did not come to fruition in 2021. I say, rebook the fight for 2022, grab Alim Nabiev, and the next highest ranking welterweight available, (Jamie Bates, Murthel Groenhart, and Harut Grigorian all being possibilities) and let's crown a new champion.
There you have it. 5 (well 7 actually) kickboxing fights I'd like to see happen in 2022. If there's fights I didn't mention that you want to see, reblog this post and let me know about them. Here's to a big 2022 with big fights and big events in the always exciting world of kickboxing.
