Kaboodle & Reader scenario

It's just really funny to think that Kaboodle is a try-hard "keep it cool" robot who doesn't realize you already have respect for him. Doesn't matter your backstory, you're incredibly thankful for him, and Kit, for having you on the team and teaching you the ropes.

Kaboodle slowly grows on to you, but he also has that fear of losing you too, so he tries to act like he's only doing this so you don't "look like an stupid baby bird who's falling out the nest". He's attached to your hip (shoulder) when he's knows Kit will be safe on her own and when he's not assigned to watch anyone else. No matter what, he's gonna encourage you to get stronger and learn moves.

"Hell, I'll be generous. If you can complete that task, we'll make a super move. Just for the two of us."

Dare I call that obvious symbolism on wanting to be closer than ever.

He does not admit at all, nor will he EVER, but it's safe to say that Gobbles and Kit figure it out overtime (Flappers isn't that smart 😭 he has to be told. And that isn't a good idea because he would absolutely tell you on accident). Even then, Kaboodle is in denial of his feelings because he doesn't want your hypothetical death of affect him and the others.

There's nothing going on between you and him, you're just on a higher pedestal below Kit.

"Nothing more!" he says.

Can we get some Kaboodle x reader headcanons please (oh and uh,, feel free to sneak some angst in there,,, if you so choose,, hehehehehe,,)

oh boy oh boy oh boy i'm bouncing off the walls with excitement right now

TOOTH ROTTING MIND MELTING HEART BURSTING FLUFFY HCS:

you cook for kaboodle sometimes (by salvaging ingredients from other games before you beat them) and he loves it so much. unfortunately, kaboodle is an awful cook.

^ so, because of this, he tried to cook for you. one time.

^ it was actual dogshit horseshit bullshit practically inedible, and he was so ashamed of the abomination he tried to throw it away. but then you found it and ate the whole plate, yapping about "wow this is so good!" "i can't believe you made it yourself!" etc etc. he was in a good mood for the rest of the week :)

in terms of physical touch, it took FOREVER until he was comfortable enough to get close to you

^ now, though, he's on your shoulder, in your lap, on your head?? he's basically attached to you now

he loves brushing your hair. because. you know. bald robot head.

i fully project my sleep-deprived stressed-out ass onto kaboodle, so i imagine that anytime it's just you and him on the ship, he is sleeping the whole fucking time. like straight up 10 hours of sleep on a whim. (but you know it's only because he feels relaxed, so you're not complaining)

whenever you find a costume area in a game, you are both immediately trying to find the most awful, humiliating outfit to force the other person to wear (kaboodle still has a ridiculous sombrero and maracas you got for him in a western game)

you tried to get him to make friendship bracelets once. he thought the whole thing was stupid until he finally gave in. he'll never admit that it was actually kind of fun and he kept the bracelet you made for him

he normally gets pissed off whenever somebody clowns on him for looking like a soccer ball or something, but you're the only one who can tease him like that without him getting offended

surprisingly, kaboodle can get jammed or rusted like a real robot. he normally takes care of it by himself, but one day he mentioned it casually in a conversation and you didn't forget about it. a dozen books about robots and mechanical engineering later, kaboodle officially has someone to oil him up HELP WITH HIS TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES

you used to consider yourself a night owl. until you met kaboodle. nobody is more night owl than kaboodle, and now you're suddenly his morning lark

you love playing card or board games together. you always lose. (sometimes you manage to beat kaboodle at a luck-based game, though! and that's all you can really hope for)

A N G S T

he is a professional over-analyzer. his brain is just always in overdrive.

^ this applies to your conversations, too. every time he starts feeling safe and comfortable around you, his brain starts taking every little gesture or glance as a sign that you're going to leave

he's pretty used to pushing down his real feelings regarding his world being destroyed, to the point where he doesn't take his own trauma seriously.

and every time you try to get him to see that it really did affect him, he gets defensive. like you're just making fun of him.

kaboodle also has the fun little combination of being easily angered and also descending into self-hatred the second you have an argument

he's developed an egotistical, pessimistic personality because it helps him stay away from his true emotions. so, whenever either of you are feeling stressed or tense, kaboodle becomes a grade-a asshole

then, once you have an argument, he immediately regrets everything and starts to spiral

do you still like him? did he just fuck up the one good thing he had going? is he just a fuck-up now??
