The Secret Inside the Guru: Kacha, Shukracharya, and Devyani
In Kashiram Das’s rendition, the journey of Kacha to acquire the Sanjivani mantra takes several unexpected turns. Killed and minced by the Daityas, Kacha is served to his guru Shukracharya inside a vat of wine.
To resolve the situation, Shukracharya teaches Kacha the secret mantra from inside his own stomach. Kacha learns it, emerges by cutting open the guru, and immediately uses the knowledge to bring Shukracharya back to life.
Beyond the main plot, the chapter highlights a sharp clash of principles when Kacha refuses to marry Devyani on the grounds of spiritual siblinghood, leading to a bitter exchange of curses.
