Getting to Know Tucker Thompson
TAF: Joining us today, we have nineteen-year old Sergeant Tucker Thompson of the Alliance Military Guard. He’s recently returned from a mission overseas, in Australia, in fact. He’s here to chat about that and who he is.
Tucker: Thanks for having me!
TAF: Let’s start with an easy question. Where did you grow up?
Tucker: That should be an easy question, reckon? I don’t—the earliest memories I have are from when I was about twelve years old. I was born in Australia, but don’t remember much. I remember a bus station in Tennessee. Nashville. My parents saying goodbye, my mother kneeling before me, her brown hair curling around her face. Then agents in uniforms stormed around them, taking me away from them. The agents boarded me on a ship, which took me to Isla Barina in the Caribbean. Once there, I joined the McConnell family on the island. I spent a lot of time on the beach and in the large garage in Fort Prospect, helping Commander McConnell around the grounds.
TAF: Did you have a pet as a child? What happened to it? How did you feel that?
Tucker: Once upon a time I rescued a three-legged dog. Also, the Commander did not allow animals in the villa. So, I hid the dog in the shed out back. Let’s just say during a bad storm, the dog found its muddy way into the house and the family hasn’t let me forget it since.
TAF: Who is your favorite superhero (or heroine)? Can be from a comic book, movie, novel, cartoon, video game or anywhere else heroes reign.
Tucker: I like the Green Arrow. We’re so similar, him being a wealthy aristocrat, and me being a nobody. No, just kidding. He has a great character arc and drive for taking care of his family, friends, and city. I relate with his inner struggle to do right even though he doesn’t always know what that is. Also, he’s just plain ridgy didge.
TAF: You finally have an evening free to spend any way you want. Money is no object. Where do you go? What would you do?
Tucker: I have a list of things I’d like to do in my lifetime, so I’d knock one or two of those out. Rapelling down the Grand Canyon. There’s a floating restaurant in Turkey. I’d have some coffee there. I’d take Saylor to Niagara Falls, too. You can accomplish that in one evening, right?
TAF: What do you think your greatest weakness is?
Tucker: Ah, another easy one! I take my time making decisions, and that can be quite painful to those around me. But I’d rather make a weighed decision than a snap one and end up not doing what I needed to do.
TAF: What do you think is your greatest attribute?
Tucker: I drink a lot of coffee. It makes me friendly.
TAF: What are you proudest of?
Tucker: I try to stay away from numbering achievements, although in Alliance they like to pin them on people’s chests. During my mission to Camp Kissinger recently, I stayed the course to close up shop. I helped take children back to their homes, put them back in their parents’ arms, and that’s one of the greatest gifts I have been given. I am grateful I could help put families back together.
TAF: Do you have any regrets?
Tucker: No, mate, that’s one decision I made years ago. I don’t regret. I see learning opportunities in my past decisions. If I could change one thing about my past, it would be to have learned more from my partner Lee. He died in the line of duty. He was a doctor, a medic. He was a great teacher. If I could go back I’d listen a little better to his stories and learn from his knowledgeable database and his manner of helping those he cared for.
TAF: Do you have any bad habits?
Tucker: I drink too much coffee. I admit it. But again, it keeps me friendly.
TAF: What has been your greatest adventure to date?
Tucker: Ah! Another not-easy one. Knowing Saylor. Every day with her is my greatest adventure.
TAF: Thanks for sharing with us today, Tucker! Here’s a bit about his latest adventure in Camp Kissinger, Australia:
The conqueror acts. He plans. He plans backup plans.
And he beats the war drums.
Just like those voices demanded, I dug into the sand and the mud,
My lead, my call, my terms. My war cadence. My dragons.
Alliance Military Guard sent the order. Sergeant Tucker Thompson acquiesced. Hopping a plane to his long-lost Australian birthplace, he's been charged with his toughest mission yet. Thompson must rally his company of soldiers to prevent a new generation of weaponry from breaching the world's borders.
Pound the war drums. Rattle the cages. Here be Dragons.
Fierce yet sparkly, I help seekers find brave new worlds. The goal is magic, the medium is ink, and the fuel is coffee. And sometimes pizza. I teach English on the university level when I'm not dancing around the living room with my family, lifting heavy at the gym, traveling the planet, or binging superhero shows.
The INSURRECTION trilogy, HERE BE DRAGONS, and non-fiction inspirational IGNITE roll out perilous motives, twisty plots, and daring protagonists. Grab some real estate and your copy of my latest adventure, and follow along at KadeeCarder.com.
Here Be Dragons is a standalone novel, but it does follow my Insurrection trilogy. We see a few characters we met on those luxurious Caribbean beaches. Tucker was the romantic interest from the trilogy. After writing the trilogy, I felt like readers needed to know Tucker more, and he had to complete this assignment. Might as well follow along! No need to have read the trilogy; this book records its own wild adventure!

Creeping through the sultry space, footsteps steady and stealthy, we readied our weapons. Blood and fire pulsed through my veins like they’d done so many times in training. This was the game, after all. These Alliance builders loved their long hallways.
Our rustling stirred up dust underfoot, and cement beams overhead groaned in disuse.
“How many feet‘re we underground ya think?” Hawk asked from the back of the line.
Flashlights and head lamps illuminated the way before us, stark tile work on the ground cracked and chipped. With every few feet we advanced, the walls became more fractured and peeling, as if a wave of tremors had rippled outward from the explosions of the bombing. Like vines along the paint, crevices in the cement grew substantial and entangled. Cautious and wary, we proceeded.
After several minutes of quiet steps echoing along the corridor, someone’s beam of light caught a fleck of darkness upon the wall.
“What’s that?” Norita asked.
Burkman shined his light to the scrawled paint upon the wall. The black paint dripped the warning: Beware.
