"If there’s one thing the world needs more of…"
here you go!
Leaky Cauldron, Fall 1998

“If there’s one thing the world needs more of. . .” Gabrielle had begun, snickering into her pint at the Leaky Cauldron, clearly a little more happy than she had been before they’d come in. “Women like you who are determined to find what the world needs more of?” came the reply of Kadyn Hamilton, equally inebriated, snickering at his jest. A playful smack across the arm and a semi-unamused look went across the witch’s face. “As if. Arse. NO. What I was going to say is linguistics. People for our department namely. We lost Chesterton in May and we’re about to lose Holloway as she wants to move off to help America’s ministry. It’s no wonder everyone finds our department the dregs of the Ministry.” Gulping down the remaining bits of the lager, Gabrielle looked rather disappointed when their eyes met. “Ever think about running for the show yourself?” Gabrielle shook her head, thinking she had mistook Hamilton’s words. “Come again, Ham?” Kadyn’s expression seemed to sober up. “I’m serious, love. Why don’t you fight for the department? Take the post up that Simmons was in?” Gabrielle began laughing, shaking her head, raising hands in protest. “I couldn’t, really. It’s a lot more than just being in magical trading standards, like you, or being the ambassador for the Isles to Romania’s Ministry. And I don’t—” Hamilton’s hand raised up to silence the witch. “Listen. We’ve all just went through a horrific year with concerns at every turn. The Ministry’s gone thru changes, good and bad. I really think though you could show that you’re capable. Show that a woman, even with the ‘one thing the world needs more of’ ideals you have. Think of it, Murray: You’d be the first female department head in our department. EVER. It’d be a game changer.” Kadyn’s hand patted her shoulder, smiling encouragingly as he ordered them a new round of drinks. “If there is one thing the world needs more of? It’s women like you.”
