The soft voice draws Kagami’s attention and he turns around to face the young girl with a smile already on his face.

Time were when he used to hate when his turn came around for patrol duty. Over time, though, he has come to appreciate the good that this kind of proximity work with the community can do to better the image of the police force in Konoha -- and of the Uchiha clan in general.

He recognises the girl as the young Hyuuga heiress, even if he does not quite remember her full name, and kneels down to be closer to her level, figuring that it was his police uniform that made her approach him.

Kagami-kun really was frustratingly difficult to get to sleep when he was looking forward to something; this time the case being a friendly one-on-one with Kise-kun the next day. Or as friendly and uncompetitive as one-on-ones between them could ever get, Kuroko thought fondly.

Still, sleeping in the same room as Kagami-kun when the other was in the state of excitement was rather challenging, and Kuroko could be a very light sleeper.

It was exactly 1 am, when Kuroko woke up to the sound of Kagami cracking his knuckles.

"Kagami-kun really should preserve his energy for tomorrow..." Or today, as the case was, Kuroko thought as he gave a glance to his smartphone. Filled with texts from Kise-kun. Ah.

"I know, I know," Kagami groaned, "but you know I can't. It's, you know, Kise. And stuff."

"Does Kagami-kun need a bedtime story?" Kuroko asked on a whim, his lips curling up slightly at the answer he expected.

"The fuck? I'm not five, Kuroko."

"Are you sure?"

"...Kuroko, if you think I'm not going to kill you for that, think again."

Kuroko laughed noiselessly, shifting onto his side as he squinted in the darkness. "Kagami-kun loves me too much to do that."

"Shit. You're right. Fuck." Well, that wasn't the answer he expected. Kuroko's toes curled beneath the blanket in surprised pleasure, and heat gathered to his face. Luckily it was dark.

"Kagami-kun sure is cute."

"S-shut up!"
