Once Kagami judged Homura's hands to be sufficiently warm, she finally let Homura shed her coat, scarf, and hat. She now wore a dark, long-sleeved turtleneck and black leggings, just a tiny bit sweaty from the heat of the kotatsu plus her winter clothes. Sliding in next to Kagami under the blanket, she sighed contentedly and leaned her head against the other girl's shoulder.

"Comfy?" said Kagami.

"Yes." On a sudden impulse, she nuzzled Kagami's face with one cheek.

"Eeep! C-Cut it out!" Kagami's own cheeks turned fiery red. "Y-Your face is still cold!"

"Warm me up."

"Oh, you... you're taking after Konata more every day, you know that?"

"Am I?"

"Yeah, you're scaring me." But Kagami laughed as she said it, and nuzzled her back, wrapping an arm around her slim waist. They were silent for a while.

"This is... nice."

"Yeah. Let's just stay like this. No need to talk."

30 DAY OTP CHALLENGE: Day 1 - Holding Hands

"Where have you been?! I was worried sick! Are you all right?"

The willowy, dark-haired figure climbing through Kagami Hiiragi's bedroom window had an unusual redness about her nose and cheeks. Her breath came in small icy clouds as she slipped through the frame and dropped to the floor on point, almost catlike. She brushed a few snowflakes off her shoulders, tossed back her long raven tresses, and closed her eyes. The unusual costume she wore, rather like a goth school uniform, vanished in a flash of violet light and was replaced by a heavy grey wool coat, a ski cap, a scarf, and thick snow boots.

"I'm fine," said Homura Akemi. "Patrol took longer than usual, due to the ice."

"Come here, let's get you out of those wet clothes." Kagami reached for the other girl's hand, then drew back suddenly. "Homura, your hand's freezing! Can't you wear anything else over that outfit of yours? There's gotta be a spell to add mittens or something to it, right?"

Homura tilted her head. "I've... honestly never thought about it before."

Kagami took the Puella Magi's hands tightly in her own, sharing her body heat. "Sheesh, you're so stubborn. Here, come sit under the kotatsu with me."

Still keeping her girlfriend in a firm grip, Kagami slid one foot under the hem of the heavy blanket, then did a sort of scooting motion backward, lifting her leg to invite Homura in. Blessed warmth from the space heater under the table filled the room, washing over her as if she were suddenly immersed in a hot bath... a little too hot, in fact.

"Kagami," said Homura with the tiniest of smiles, "I can't change out of these clothes if you keep holding my hands like that."

"I'm not letting go 'til your hands warm up, so deal with it."

"Whatever you say."
