On 2nd June 2026, Kohana 小花 (left) and Koma (小ま) made their debut at Chiyoda, Kagurazaka! They wear matching Hikizuri with a hana ikada (flower raft) motif. Chiyoda is now the Okiya with the biggest member count in Kagurazaka. Assumed there were no retirements I don't know about, there are now 19 Geisha and Hangyoku in Kagurazaka, which is the highest number since 2016 (only since 2018, there are reliable infos about new debuts in Kagurazaka available thanks to the official Kagurazaka Kumiai account on instagram).

Kagurazaka Koyû 小陽 in April 2025 Koyû celebrated the 5th anniversary of her debut this September. According to Eiko (who runs the linked instagram account), Kagurazaka Geisha are allowed to become independent of their debut Okiya 5 years after their debut, and that's what Koyû did. She is now head of her own Okiya (the name is not mentioned).

Today - 2nd June 2025 - in Kagurazaka: Waka 和香 became a Geisha after being a Hangyoku for little more than two years. Kyôka 杏香became a Hangyoku after being a Minarai for a little less than two months. Possible retirement in Kagurazaka:

Eiko (@hidekohorii on insta) has deleted all her photos depicting Geisha/Hangyoku other than herself, and the last update on her account is from August, where she used to update multiple times a month.

The official Kagurazaka Geisha account (@kagurazaka_kumiai) is also rather silent, not having been updated since mid November. I hope things are allright over there!

Late news from Kagurazaka: In May 2025, Konatsu and Fukuko became natori of the Katada 堅田school of Hayashi, receiving the names Kisana 喜紗夏 and Kisafuku 喜紗福 by their master Kisayo 喜三代.
