Just another job, right? This one was supposed to be easy because there were no people in the large skyscraper he was meant to break into, due it it being the middle of the night. He’d gotten in easily enough, surprisingly, having simply picked a lock at the back where the kitchen and cafe was located. It was so easy, in fact, that he thought the kitchen crew hadn’t closed up like they were supposed to, thinking that no one would ever try to break into the skyscraper that was the home to a multi-billion dollar company. Those idiots.
After disabling the security cameras, he rode the elevator up to the level that the documents he needed were on, which was the 50th floor— the top floor— before searching for those documents.
Thinking there was nobody inside, the delinquent opened and closed a few doors without thinking to do it silently, finally proceeding to open a door to a certain dark room and crouching to open the safe that housed the documents with a flashlight until he heard footsteps directly behind him.
Shit. He knew that this had been way too fucking easy, and quickly stood up to apprehend the man that had so rudely intruded on him trying to steal the highly confidential account numbers. Dropping the flashlight to pull out his knife, the thief ran at the man, who turned out to be surprisingly strong with pretty damn quick reflexes, and managed to finally pin him on the floor after a good minute of struggling against him.
Normally, he would’ve just ended the poor bastard’s life then and there, but the dim light of the flashlight and the intense proximity of their faces allowed him to see those eyes— the same ones he had gazed into so many times, the same ones that he’d seen first thing in the morning when he woke up two years before, the same ones that held such intensity during the middle of a fight, the same ones that he now dreamed of more often than he’d like to at admit. Oh yes, he could recognize those those yellow hues anywhere...
The very second Kai recognized them, he dropped the knife and backed up as fast as he could on the floor, his own eyes filled with panic and confusion and hurt.
