There wasn’t much he knew about the mission— he didn’t need to know much. The shuttle had arrived on Thessia, homeworld of the Asari, and his mission was to retrieve a Prothean artifact. He was forewarned about Commander Shepard and her crew, a friendly tip given to him by the Illusive Man before beginning his trek to the planet.
There was always something Kaidan couldn’t quite place a finger on; a blankness in a sea of (forged) memories. The name Shepard always brought a prickle to the back of his neck, like his body was attempting communication but always managing to fail. He’d grown accustomed to the feeling, only now disregarding it rather than looking at the bigger picture.
Arrival at the Temple of Athame was easy; a greenness was cascading where the Temple was located, an oddity in comparison to the red haze cast across the sky. On a battlefield, it was the only place untouched by the chaos (for now). The Cerberus shuttle drops him off, his feet stumbling into a foresighted situation. Commander Shepard and her crew. He remembers the words the Illusive Man told him: get rid of our mutual problem, Kaidan.
He’s still trying to wrap his head around that weird word he used: mutual.
“Having a bad day, Commander Shepard?” His sonorous words echo throughout the near-empty Temple, the gun in grasp raising. In a swift move, his sights align on Shepard; a quick bullet and she’s down for the count, but what about the two crew members behind her. That’s a trickier situation.
“Something tells me I’m not about to help.”
