I WANT KISSES I DESERVE KISSES POTATO
smooch smooch | 3/3
the shatterdome had lost too much. there was nothing anyone could do to hide the way they were affected. shoulders low, voices almost monotone, smiles hard to find. everyone was on autopilot. work was getting done but the banter some were so used to sharing was gone.
cheung now had to wander through his own life without the brothers he had shared everything with. herc seemed to sentence himself to walk around with max as a permanent reminder of his lost son. mako did her best to hide the way stacker’s absence hit her. and sasha? she seemed so broken compared to the first time raleigh saw her.
dead eyes, a face that was either stoic or showing sadness, her own jacket discarded in preference for the larger one aleksis used to wear. that was perhaps the saddest sight of all. seeing the huge change in sasha’s behavior. the adopted mother of the shatterdome in such a heartbreaking state.
it took raleigh too long to reach out to her. to attempt to bring some kind of light to the current darkness, even if it was temporary.
he caught her in the jaeger bay, looking over the empty spaces their sacrifices machines left. he knew why she was there. he did the same thing. stare at the spaces in an attempt to bring back everyone lost for and within them. they knew it would change nothing, knew that they’d wake up the next morning with the same loss they felt now. yet they continued for something to do.
initially, he stood with her in silence. could find no words to say that hadn’t already been shared. couldn’t think of anything to do that would somehow bring support outside of as a ranger, you’re not alone. he didn’t want to bring more pain in an attempt to help.
they nearly grew into an uncomfortable setting before his humming started.
an old russian lullaby he had heard through mako’s memories, weaseled into his own mind from the drift. he didn’t know the meaning, didn’t know the words, only hoped it could bring something pleasant to sasha for a moment.
she seemed to need to steel herself before joining along, singing while he provided the background, their noises soft enough for just them to hear. a moment they could share in an attempt to get emotions out. make sasha feel like the days of old weren’t quite gone yet.
by the time the song was done, her head fell and raleigh’s instincts kicked in.
arms wrapped around her with ease, his lips pressing to her temple the same way he had for his own mother years ago. sasha kaidonovsky was the mother of the shatterdome, broken by a loss she couldn’t control. cared for by all the residents even if some were still too scared to speak out.
raleigh had lost his own mother, and it taught him to appreciate any influence he gained.
sasha was an adopted mother of sorts, and he’d do whatever he could to support her.
❝ make them remember. ❞
❛ I am not sure they could forget ❜ The apocalypse , the eternally fabled end of the world ; it was upon them & it was far more frightening than anyone had dreamed ( or feared ) . From afar it was enough to send the world into a panic but up close ? The false sense of hope , of power was enough to tear you apart from the inside . You’re told you can fight , that you can win , you get comfortable & then the people closest to you are ripped away painfully , quickly , never to be seen again . Then ------- you forget what that comfort is . At the very least , the world was saved , the panic can pass & the world can look back at the end as a fading memory . They can hail the pilots as heroes , both fallen & left behind . ❛ They will remember what we have done , what we have all done . ❜

@kaidonovskya.
the sorrow that clings to her is familiar. the void in her eyes can only barely hold a candle to the gnawing silence of the severed drift. he knows it intimately. raleigh stoops low, shoulders hunched and head bowed to meet her empty gaze. his brows are scrunched together in worry.
❛ what can i do? ❜
kaidonovskya r:
