Now, it's a little loved and really hated in the kny community because of the pairing itself. I find that it is very surface level judged but I'm not really sure. I just know a small handful of people ship it
To be clear, I would never ship them in the og universe. I think they would hate each other. Kimetsu Academy on the other hand... I think they would enjoy each other's company. Swap aus? Absolutely

We'll start with Academy!KaiUme
I havent read the manga in a while but I think this seems accurate to both characters. I'll explain some things/ put my headcanon out
• I dont think Kaigaku would be the type of person to use petnames. I hc the only name he'd use for her is Shiraume because other people/suitors called her that before they dated.
● Ume would definitely give Kaigaku nicknames. The name she would use most is Kai
● Both of them would definitely use actions to give and recieve love. Ume would do it more than Kaigaku. I dont see Kaigaku being the verbal type in Academy but, he'd probably say affectionate words when they're alone
● I dont think Ume is the type to give and recieve love verbally. She would use her words a lot if she's playfully flirting to get what she wants normally. If she's with Kaigaku, she'd do that a little but be more demanding. Her main love language would probably be gift giving or some kind of recieving type.
● Ume would wait for confessions because she expects people to confess to her. Kaigaku would wait because he doesnt expect people to like him and he's too focused on spying.
○ I do think Kaigaku and Ume had a back and forth banter flirting phase in their friendship, and during that Kaigaku would say that he'd never confess to her while Ume would disagree (and she was right).
● This part is a little outdated but I think Ume can cook. Listen, if she got a job at the pizza place then like I think she would know how to cook. I hc that she's really good at baking to make treats for her brother. I also hc that Kaigaku, Zenitsu and Jigoro take turns making dinner.
● Kaigaku doesnt really know how keep a relationship going and would be a bit awkward because of it and his job. Also, I think he would be a bit similar to Genya: say a few words and be a little affectionate because saying rude things isnt good. Though I think he would be a little mean.
● Since Ume has someone that's hers, I think she would be a little possessive over Kaigaku. She would be fine if she was friends with a girl then introduce her to Kaigaku but, if Kaigaku were to make a female friend, Ume cant guarentee if she'd steal him. (Arguably, the chances would still be there eitherway, but Ume makes sure they dont dare try) (Listen to Jealousy - Marina and you'll understand 🙏🙏)
● Kaigaku would be similar except he'd let Ume make a male friend but Kaigaku makes sure the other guy doesnt try.

Shabana Family
Gyutaro Shabana: 6/10
I hc that he and Kaigaku were friends first before Gyutaro went to college (which is a higher level in academy I hc). At first, Gyutaro was protective of his sister but then trusted Kaigaku to not try anyting. After Ume told her brother they were dating, Gyutaro was a little protective of her but knew that he needed to trust him.
Mr. Shabana (I dont have a name for him): 5/10
He thinks Kaigaku is a troublemaker but, he hasnt been around his kids long enough to make a judgement since, he works a lot and isnt really at home.
Agatsuma Family
Zenitsu Agatsuma: 4/10
He'd be very jealous of Kaigaku getting a girlfriend and woeful about himself however, he's NOT the type of person to steal someone's girlfriend even if it's Kaigaku's. 1. Zenitsu doesnt think he can and 2. Zenitsu doesnt think he will. If people are in a relationship, he knows they're too loyal to one another. He also doesnt really like Ume that much and Ume doesnt like him either. Both think the other is too annoying.
Jigoro Agatsuma 5/10
(Idk too much of his character so bare with me)
He would be excited for Kaigaku to have a girlfriend mainly because he didnt think his rudeness would attract anybody and, Ume's pretty. He is disappointed because Ume treats Zenitsu poorly.
