There's this drop-dead beautiful webcomic called A Broken Winter. Beautiful in that it is amazingly illustrated (by Archie the Redcat, which, if you have not seen this artist's art, GO CHECK IT OUT AT ONCE) and exquisitely written (by the one and only Kale Night). There are fantasy and sci-fi elements, but ultimately it's much more than a simple story (although WHAT a story it is!) This is how the author puts it...
...keeping A Broken Winter going means continuing to draw attention to important issues like children who are negatively impacted by war and the denial of basic human rights to anyone who defies the heteronormative paradigm. This project means so much more to me than being able to see my work in a visual format, it means giving a voice to anyone who suffers as a result of oppression or mental illness.
It's not a NICE story. It's very dark in places. But you know what? There are stories that need to be told, and stories that deserve to be told (because they are so good), and A Broken Winter is both. If you don't believe me, you can read it at its website here.
And if you do love it and want to help, you can donate here at the Broken Winter kickstarter campaign.
Please share the word and save this wonderful comic!
