What if Dragon Age but the HoF and Inquisitor are swapped 👀
inspired by @druidsim‘s dragon age hype + that tiny snippet we got at TGA so here we go lads. my very first warden, kali tabris. city elf rogue. made when i was probably 13 and i have absolutely no screenshots to reference so this is as good as she gets with my hazy memory! i do however remember that she’ll fucking deck you. i love her. thank u for coming to my ted talk.
I was tagged by the lovely @ghoulsbeard and @isayashai to make my DA OCs using this beautiful picrew! <3 tagging anyone else who sees this and feels like bringing their character to life. :)
DAO: Kali Tabris
DA2: Rowan Hawke
DAI: Variel Lavellan
And to celebrate the start of my DA side account, I'm showing off this stunning art of my warden Kali Tabris and Alistair that I was lucky enough to get as a commission from @ulenehlervu <3
Feeling in a DAO kind of mood 🤔
an angel??
21 + 27 for your warden?
Did the Warden romance anyone from their group? If so, what attracted them to their partner?
Technically, over the last 15ish years I have played Kali enough times to have romanced everyone on her at least once. I'd say that each relationship brings their own value to the table but ultimately I chose Zevran as the "canon" romance. Initially because I was originally playing Origins on an Xbox 360 and could not mod Morrigan.
Alistair and Leliana both bring about a certain kind of sweetness that I think Kali was lacking in her life beforehand but ultimately I don't think that sweetness is something that Kali *wants*. Kali is persuasive and tries to solve issues without violence but ultimately she is not a coddling person. The world will not hold your hand and neither will she.
Like, don't get me wrong. They get along really well but Leliana and Alistair are in a vulnerable position where they need to *be* hardened (or reassured but that was never coming from Kali) and Kali is not the kind of person who would find that attractive in a partner. They are her friends. She loves them in that way. But at the end of the day it is definitely a case of feeling like she needs to teach Alistair and Leliana to put their shields up and with Morri and Zev she has to teach them to that they can lower their defenses sometimes.
Morrigan and Zevran are both coming from a place where life has been extremely cruel to them and they have already hardened their hearts. A romance with the Warden is letting the Warden provide that sweetness for them. Putting Kali, a character that is kind but also a violent and vengeful cynic, in the role of manic pixie dream girl makes the trope far more tolerable to me. She can certainly match Morrigan and Zevran in their sardonic irony about the state of the world just as much as she can open their eyes to the idea that genuine love and kindness can exist on the fringes of that shit-show.
Morrigan is a straight woman and as much as I love the freedom of fanfiction where anything can happen I find the idea of a co-dependent, platonic co-parenting situation between the two endlessly compelling. Morrigan and Kali are soul mates but they are not romantic partners. My TED talk on this subject is a different post.
Zevran, therefore, is the ideal lover candidate. Zevran has shit to do Post Canon and he is clearly capable of doing it with or without her because she also has shit to do. She's got Vigil's keep, raising Alistair and Morrigan's weird magical son with the ancient god soul and curing the Calling. The list goes on. I don't think the other LI's would be cool with all of that implied separation. Kali and Zevran's relationship would never cool with distance (and there would be a lot of distance because their shit that needs doing is so far apart). They're both pragmatic and industrious people and I think they like that in each other. Naughty letters and frequent traveling that both their goals requires would be exciting rather than stifling. When they briefly meet up because their agendas align the sex is probably transcendental. With both of them hitting on her Morrigan will never know any peace.
Back when I was on my shits about the self-sacrifice ending the line about never loving anyone ever again tickled my romantic sensibilities. Zevran also has no tertiary content or cameos that fundamentally misunderstand him in ways that enrage me. (Mostly because he pretty much doesn't have any at all.) Literally perfect from an in and out of character perspective.
Kali Tabris if the CC in the game she came from was this beautiful.
