miss-ingno said: *hugs* God I already die at 25 degrees, how do you even manage. I have an arguement with friends every year who are like “when do we finally hit the 30s :) :) :)” and I’m like. nope. if you do i’m staying home. or in the water. no thanks.
eh, I was born and bred in this weather. I’ve experienced the literal 99% humidity and wow, it was literally walking through soup everyone was feeling sluggish as fuck. Also, wait til haze season, although not as bad as poor Singapore! (Thanks Indonesia). But it’s getting hella warmer every year, thanks accelerated climate change!

The person meant well but when I protested that, no seriously, hot drinks do not help in this particular weather but they insisted that it isn’t so...and proceeded to advise me that “hot drinks will cool your body” again like I don’t know that myself...even though that study is flawed as shit, as a quick Google proved. That was just annoying, as if I am unaware of my own body and the environment I’ve lived in for over two decades.
'Roadside Picnic,' by Arkady & Boris Strugatsky, 2012 translation by Chicago Review Press. Gifted to me by kalimayablack. If you love me, you'll read this book.
kalimayablack said: maybe contact customer service, a lot of times they’ll be willing to briefly reactivate your download for you
Hm, the website the author used to sell the pdf versions of her comic doesn’t seem to have a customer service link anywhere...*leaves a message on their facebook*
In some cases fairies are supposed to be dead too (though the embodied spirits of the dead more often than the animated corpses of the dead), so the distinction gets even more arbitrary.
I do a quick calculation to see what my teaching salary looks like as a $/hr ratio (hint: never do this), then, in flippant despair, ask an online i-ching hexagram caster "What the hell has become of my life?" and this is the answer I get:
"23 - Twenty-Three
Po / Splitting Apart
The weight of the Mountain presses down upon a weak foundation of Earth:
The Superior Person will use this time of oppression to attend to the needs of those less fortunate.
Any action would be ill-timed.
Stand fast.
SITUATION ANALYSIS:
This is a situation easily mistaken for Stagnation (Hexagram 12) or Revolution (Hexagram 49).
It just depends on which side you're on.
During a time of Stagnation, human worms invade to feed on the decay.
During a time of Revolution, oppression is being overthrown.
But in this situation, oppressors are violently seizing power.
Pay special heed when you receive this hexagram, because the oracle is often warning you of a situation of which you are totally unaware.
You are about to be blindsided."
kalimayablack does one for me and gets:
"11 - Eleven
T'ai / Peace
Heaven and Earth embrace, giving birth to Peace.
The Superior Person serves as midwife, presenting the newborn gift to the people.
The small depart; the great approach.
Success.
Good fortune.
SITUATION ANALYSIS:
It doesn't get any better than this.
Everything is in harmony, all obstacles are cleared from your Path, anything you could ask for is right at hand.
This is the Elysian Fields, the Garden of Eden.
The only thing wrong with Peace is that it, too, must change.
Whether you are in this state of harmony now or it is predicted for your future, recognize it as your greatest opportunity to build your resources against less harmonious times."
"The Middle Line prevails.
Hexagram Eleven/Line Three
Every plain leads to a slope.
All going leads to a return.
He who keeps his inner faith in the midst of oppression will persevere.
Do not rail against what must be; savor fully what remains.
Hexagram Eleven/Line Four
Instead of stretching to grasp the wealth that may rise out of reach, he stoops to help his companions climb to his level.
They expect his resentment but receive only his faith and love; they no longer fear his power.
Hexagram Eleven/Line One
When the grass is pulled up the earth in which it is firmly rooted comes up with it.
You share your new wealth with loved ones, creating a conduit for even greater fortune."
"Transformed Hexagram:
40 - Forty
Hsieh / Liberation
A Thunderous Cloudburst shatters the oppressive humidity:
The Superior Person knows the release in forgiveness, pardoning the faults of others and dealing gently with those who sin against him.
It pays to accept things as they are for now.
If there is nothing else to be gained, a return brings good fortune.
If there is something yet to be gained, act on it at once.
SITUATION ANALYSIS:
The relief you experience here is not your own personal pardon, but the release of others from your rigid expectations.
Like a hot air balloon, you will rise to new heights as you cast the heavy sandbags of resentments and restrictions away from you.
Feel the lightness of being that results from forgiving others and accepting them as they are.
Free yourself of the endless vigil of policing the behavior of others.
See them for who they are, not what they can or can't do for you."
So. All together, is that "stay and be warily patient," or is it "watch your back because someone's angling to Get you" or is it "run now and don't look back?"
kalimayablack suggests "don't be complacent, this shit is fucked up, make your preparations and no rash decisions, be ready to duck/dodge and bail," which feels pretty accurate.
