More paperwork
“Does it never end?” The elf groans as he finishes stamping yet another form, his seal firmly printed. With a flick of his wrist, the paper lands on top of a pile at the end of his desk. “I really should get that assistant..” Leaning back in his chair, Kal brushes his loose hair back and rubs his temples. He recalls the eagerness of Kwinnlin Wintersong, the young elf who seemed determined to become his aide. “I suppose it is time I stop doing things on my own.” He glances over his shoulder at the doorway. “Please stop doing that.”
With a chuckle Kaltis steps from the shadows “I haven’t done anything, I was wondering when you would notice me.” The younger elf stepped forward, his tight clothing blending with the shadows, and his staff clacking as the skulls bounced against each other. “You sent for me?”
Kalth nods as he stands, tying his hair back with the strip of embersilk he holds so dear. “That I did. You feel it as well as I do, something is coming and we must work together to protect those we love. I know where you have been, and I know how much she means to you. But you need to come back so we can ensure her safety.” His voice stoic as he passed over a sealed letter.
“And will you protect your love as much as I wish to protect mine?” The young elf smirked, knowing he was pushing his luck. “You failed to protect the last two, My mother and sister.. Both.” His fel-green eyes blazed with a mixture of pain and rage. “Will you keep your promise to them? Will you let no others perish as they did?”
With misty eyes, he toyed with the gem on his wrist. “I made that promise and I intend to keep it. They were my wife and my sister. My family as much as yours. But the Scions.. We all need your help. You are strong, your mother knew that best..” He took a step forward and placed a gentle hand on his sons shoulder “Help me keep that promise. For your love and for mine.”
Kaltis laughed and nodded his head “If you fail, at least I will succeed in my mission. No harm will come to either of them.” His voice cutting the air like a knife. “I will prepare. Do I have your permission to do things my own way?”
“You have access to anything you need.” The words came with a slight hesitation as he watched his own son step out of the room. “Please be careful.” With a bellowing laugh the young warlock vanished, stepping through his own portal.
Relief filled Kalth as he noticed the house empty once again. “I need to make my way to Silverpine..” The words quiet as he slowly put on his traveling armor. “I need to see her...”
