22 Tamil Nadu Govt. School Students Embark on Educational Tour to Germany Under Kalvi Suttrula Scheme
In a proud moment for Tamil Nadu’s education system, 22 government school students have embarked on a week-long educational tour to Germany, exploring the best of science, technology, history, and global culture. This initiative is part of the Kalvi Suttrula scheme, a visionary program launched by the Tamil Nadu School Education Department to promote holistic and inclusive learning.
Global Learning Begins in Munich
The group, accompanied by a teacher and an official from the School Education Department, departed on Saturday and will return on May 28. Their itinerary includes visits to prestigious academic institutions in Munich, offering the students firsthand exposure to international education systems and innovative technologies.
During the tour, the students will explore:
BMW Museum – Understanding engineering excellence and automotive history
Dachau Concentration Camp – A powerful lesson in world history and human rights
Deutsches Museum – One of the world’s largest museums dedicated to science and technology
Swarovski Crystal Worlds – Blending art, science, and craftsmanship
Hungerburg Funicular – Showcasing feats of engineering and design
This carefully curated experience combines education, culture, and inspiration, giving students a chance to learn outside traditional classrooms.
₹3 Crore Investment in Young Futures
Funded entirely by the Tamil Nadu government at a cost of approximately ₹3 crore, this initiative reflects the State's commitment to empowering students from underprivileged and rural backgrounds through international exposure.
The Kalvi Suttrula scheme, introduced in 2022–23 by School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, is designed to reward students not only for academic excellence but also for achievements in:

So far, 323 government school students have benefited from the Kalvi Suttrula scheme, traveling to countries including:

These tours are not one-size-fits-all. Students are selected through competitions conducted at school, block, district, and State levels, and grouped based on their areas of excellence. Past international visits include:
