                            and  it  burned  ––––  kind  words  always  felt  like  a  fist  cracking against  his  skull, or  fire  roasting his  skin  alive. it  didn’t  stem  from  the  fact  he  didn’t  deserve it  (he  knew  that,  he  truly,  truly  knew  that),  but  like  fire  and  frost,  he  simply couldn’t  coexist  with  compassion  –––  not  without  melting  away.

and  so,  his  expression  twists  ––––  his  gut  churns, and  his  hands  ball.  kindness, generosity  –––  he  couldn’t  forgive it.  he  couldn’t forgive  exposure  to  something  so  dangerous  for  him.

“––––shut  up,”  but  even  if  it  hurt,  his  bite  still  seems  to  be  blunt,  rather  than  sharp. he  holds  himself  back,  because  even  if  her  words  shot  through  him  ––––  made  him  bleed  and  choke  ––––  he  would  never  hurt  someone like  her.
