Wooden Houses are built upon the great mats of bamboo, metal drums or boat hulls, such that the front veranda floats a meter or so above the water. As the lake rises and falls so do the houses. Villages move, not only meters up and down during the year, but also several kilometers back and forth as the Tonle Sap contract and expands. Otherwise, life in Floating Village is much the same as in any Cambodian community. In large villages the high street is lined with shops, restaurants, hairdresser, fuel station, karaoke bar even pagoda or church, Commune and sclool. The only difference is that the street is made of water and people travel by canoe or motor boat rather than bicycle or motorcycle. Welcome to #shoutoutthursday! Today we are featuring our friends @everydayclimatechange. ・・・ These two arial pictures was took few months apart. One was took in June during beginning of raining season. The second one was took in November when the water is at the highest point. These are photos of #KampongPluk village in #SiemReap province of #Cambodia. The village famous for it #stilt houses. About 1,200 sitlt houses place around 10-13 meters from the ground to over reach by flooding water. People here live with water for several generations. They have very unique solution to live with the influence from #TonleSap Lake. The lake provide almost everything for their livelihood. However, during the last ten years the water level of the lake and #Mekong river had been changed dramaticly. Some years, the village didn't flood at all and the lake become very small during the dry season. This possible cause by climate change and #hydropower dam projects on the mainstream #Mekong.
