MAUNA LOA MACADAMIA 💙ROSETTES LEI DAY in 2021 🌿 💚It was an honor until it wasn’t, after creating lei for them, I was told by their marketing they would Not tag me because I was a Mainland Lei maker and they didn’t want to upset the Hawaiians on the Island (ummm, what the… Hey I am Hawaiian, native Hawaiian living in LA, a registered Hawaiian with OHA and Kamehameha schools Hawaiian) sadly, I quietly said Nothing, but recently I’ve seen many NOT HAWAIIANS making lei or doing other Hawaiian traditions (which is wonderful) BUT getting press and accolades when they’re not even Hawaiian, just living in Hawaii Letting (you) assume they are Indeed Hawaiian when they are NOT. 👉🏽With sincerest alohas, I see all your love for our amazing culture and Islands, but have some respect please, because I see it as a fine line to culturally appropriating Hawaiians to make you look good or for a Fast buck. This should not Be. I say this with love in hopes you UNDERSTAND there are Hawaiians everywhere outside the islands now too & plenty here in LA.
