Beware! a VERY long Kaos + the Darkness character/scene rant lies below...

This scene is my favorite one in the entire Skylanders series. It is the ONE and ONLY moment where Kaos is visibly and undeniably shown as completely vulnerable.

Note that I'm not saying this scene is the only moment where Kaos has been vulnerable period. If you're like me, you've been digging through every piece of Skylander lore you can get your hands on in order to get a better picture of Kaos’s life and backstory. -and if you've done that, you know (despite his egregious behavior and villainous ways) the little man has had it rough.

-but all of that "roughness" is usually found in places we can't see straightaway. Most of Kaos' internal struggles (his maternal issues, his crushing loneliness, his hunger for attention and respect) are not treated as a focus in the franchise. -and why would it? He's our main bad guy! Kaos' job (as a character) is to antagonize. That's it. If the plot were to start treating him like a sympathetic villian, who would be able to fill such diabolically iconic shoes?

(The real answer here is his mother, but that's another essay for another time.)

Enter the Darkness: an antagonistic force that's been silently involved in the Skylanders' universe since the first game. Superchargers story brings back a lot of story elements from Spyro's Adventure and Giants that were kind of abandoned/forgotten about over time (and I love it for that). The Darkness is one of those elements.

At the beginning of the game, the Darkness is just an ominous shadow that Kaos doesn't really seem to worried about, despite his butler’s concerns. To him, it's simply what it has always been - a force that gives him power. Power to achieve his desires. -like becoming supreme ruler of all Skylands.

Of course, this status changes as the Darkness grows stronger, gaining it's own voice. It starts talking to Kaos. Telling him things he wants to hear while also hinting at it's own true ambitions; ambitions Kaos doesn't catch because he's too caught up in the promise of his own wants: taking over Skylands for himself.

Further along, when Glumshanks (Kaos' only real peer and confidant) asking too many questions for the Darkness, it manipulates Kaos into firing him.

He tricks Kaos into isolating himself.

Kaos cuts off the source of his own voice of reason. (If it wasn't clear that Glumshanks plays the role of Kaos' moral leash, the man's conscience takes the form of the troll butler when Kaos starts questioning his actions.)

So, when the moment comes for Kaos to try and go his own way, a way that is NOT parallel to the what the Darkness wants, he gets blackmailed.

"You can rule the universe in MY name... or you spend the rest of eternity just... being... YOU."

-and what does Kaos do upon hearing this threat?

He folds immediately.

-because, without the Darkness, he's got nothing left.

No powers. No Glumshanks. No future.

He's just Kaos.

-and, unfortunately, it seems like even our greatest enemy, the big bad of our entire Skylanders journey (at least for that moment) would rather be somebody else's pawn than be forced to go through life as... just himself.

I saw a post about Golden Queen's height in comparison to Kaos and I knew there was NO WAY girlie was almost 12ft tall 😨

So I did a more in-depth comparison using Wolfgang as reference. Who btw, I found out might be over 6ft tall.

And I found that Goldie would be about 7ft tall if this were the case.

Not a giantess, but still SUPER tall!!

Still super unclear of their canon heights, though, so please don't take any of this seriously ♡
