#HelmutNewton #KaraYoung #MonteCarlo while in #Monaco for a festival of fashion photography Helmut and June invited a bunch us to his apt for lunch. They had moved there years before. He told me that the taxes were so high in France that he was always on the verge of being broke and only got to save money when he became a citizen of Monaco. He needed to spend a certain amount of time there to establish that. It’s why so many of his shootings were shot in MonteCarlo. The other messed up fact was that after 25 years of of creating some of the greatest images the fashion industry deemed him passé and he couldn’t get much work. The industry preferred young and mediocre to a great master, I couldn’t believe it. It took a number of lean years to get a break and show them whose boss! Helmut always kicked ass in my book!
