just thinking about the aphantasia, does that make any particular type of fic harder/better(/faster/stronger) for you? what do you like to read most?
fic in general is a lot easier than original fiction Because it's often based off something visual - and i personally have an easier time seeing something in my mind's eye when i've already seen it properly, it's not foolproof but it's easier - but honestly i've gotten so good at skimming things that won't mean anything to me that it doesn't tend to impact very much!
i tend to stick with dialogue-heavy fic, but i've read a few that have no dialogue and still are some of my favourites - (when the nuclear winters) turn our beaches to glass by @templeofshame and december 3rd: new day by @watergator for example are the sorts of introspection that really make an impact. the nice thing about these fics and this Type of fic is that it's often focused on Feelings to set the mood instead of something specifically Visual
the best way i can describe the fic and original fiction that doesn't appeal to me specifically is "are there 500 words describing things? i'm probably not reading any of that". e.g. if you look at the difference in Setting Detail between percy jackson (i Love how it just throws us in and doesn't bother with describing things in detail) and harry potter (i can't visualize the castle and it's making me antsy that you're describing another corridor) then you'll kind of see what i like most. there's a reason i struggle so much w a lot of hard fantasy and sci-fi
writing with a lot of description can still be Extremely good, but i often either skim those bits or tire myself out trying to get an image that'll never come lmao
