It's with great sadness that I share the news of the unexpected passing of an incredible artist, generous soul and my friend, Karin Jurick, at age 59. Karin didn't start painting until later in her life and she was entirely self-taught. She started by selling her works on eBay in 2006 (where I found her) and made enough money to finally build herself the studio she always wanted. From there her work just got better and better. She and her companion of 30 years, Brett, even designed a special easel (Custom-Built Paint On AlterEasel ) that she sold to fellow artists. I began to collect her art when she first started selling it and was so impressed that I began blogging about her work way back in 2007. Over time she garnered a large following and soon after had gallery representation. It wasn't long before her work was out of my price range. I consider myself lucky enough to own six of her pieces. Only now I wish I'd bought so many more. But more than a talented artist, she was a very special and generous human being. Edgy, witty, funny and kind. Her podcasts, posts and tutorials inspired and helped tons of artists. Karin was also a huge dog-lover and surprised me with a portrait of my first dog, Abbey, when she passed away. The comments flooding her social media accounts are testament to the impact and influence Karin had on many. Not only did thousands of people enjoy and covet her work, but it's clear they loved her as well. I can't yet bring myself to write a tribute post, but I will. Rest in peace Karin. #RIPKarinJurick #karinjurick You can find her amazing art here at https://karinjurick.com/ZemArt/Welcome.html https://www.instagram.com/p/CQpWZrIhHUA/?utm_medium=tumblr
