What if Dazai blew up Chuuya's car just so that he didn't drive drunk because he knew he was going to drink a lot when he found out he was leaving the Mafia?

I hadn’t thought about that being the reason, but it definitely makes a lot of sense! Dazai is, as everyone knows, incredibly intelligent and good at predicting people so he would have definitely had the foresight to set something like that up.

Though, I have to say, it is a pretty extreme method of keeping Chuuya from driving drunk. He could’ve easily chosen a subtler method like slashing the tires or messing with the car’s engine. Car bombs are a flashy and dangerous way to go, especially because they’re generally rigged to go off when the driver starts the car’s engine. If Chuuya had really been super drunk, he might’ve been too drunk to keep himself from getting hurt or killed by it.

Granted, Dazai probably could have mitigated that by being careful with the bomb’s set up, but either way, I think he definitely wanted to piss Chuuya off with that move, in addition to keeping his car out of commission. But your idea that he wanted to keep Chuuya from drinking and driving is the only reason I can think of for Dazai to go after Chuuya’s car specifically! So I think it’s a really solid and sweet theory. ^^
