Happy Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day!

I'm far from the first person to make a post like this, but I just want to take a moment to share some appreciation for all the fic writers in fandom.

I started reading fic long before writing it, and I've read far more than I can ever dream of writing, and I just know that I probably wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the thousands of writers I've read and loved. I appreciate the work and effort you put into your fics, the ones you've worked yourself to tears over to the ones you giggled too much to type more than a sentence at a time.

Thank you to fanfic writers for being supportive, kind, and creating such an incredible community that keeps me coming back to fandom time and time again. My life is the better for knowing you and I appreciate you so much.

For anyone wondering how to share some appreciation for their favorite fic writers, here are some suggestions!

Comment on some of your favorite fic! Let the author know if it's one you keep coming back to!

Send your favorite writer a DM or an ask with a positive note

Share some favorites quotes, art, edits, or any other posts about writers or fic (and tag or otherwise share with the writers)

Make fic rec posts! (and tag or otherwise share with the writers)

Today is a day to appreciate everything they've given us, and the best way to do that is let them know how much we love them all 💛

Friendly reminder that you never have to read any fic that you don't want to.

It doesn't matter why, whether it's because of triggers, an AU you don't like, whether they use British vs American English, or any other slew of reasons. It doesn't matter if it's super popular or if you're friends with who wrote it. It doesn't matter if it's similar to a fic you've written; what people like to write is not always the same as what they like to read.

Fandom is an escape for a lot of people, and for many people it's one of the few places they can really curate their experience. Never feel guilty for not wanting to, or not being able to, read something.

"Don't like; don't read" isn't just something to throw around when people criticize you for writing something they don't like. "Don't like; don't read" means that some people will not want to read what you've written, and that's okay.

I know every fandom is different regarding culture and such, but looking through the general PJO fandom tag and sorting by comments? Why is PJO so bad at commenting?

There's currently a conversation happening on a blog I follow about anthologies being bad. I've always posted my Tumblr ficlets as anthologies (split by ship) because I didn't want dozens of <500 word ficlets and the anthologies felt less annoying when posting multiple at a time. They're tagged as 'ficlet collection' and by ship, so I always figured they could be filtered out. I'm seeing a lot of people argue against anthologies, and now I'm less sure.

What are your thoughts?

A sketch/comic thing I drew today when I should have been working. @kukoshka has me wanting to dip my toe back into art again, so let's call this step one. It's loosely inspired by Nothing is Ever Set in Stone by fanamaniac (@baguetteghost); i.e. a statue of Apollo is exposed to sunlight and comes to life and Percy is the one who finds him.
