The concrete felt like snow, forever cold and unbearable. I tried to desperately hang on to the small string I had left of my life. However, hanging on meant I had to deal with this excruciating pain in my entire body.
I couldn't feel my legs, which were bruised badly. The side of my stomach suffered from a scar that made me bleed out slowly but surely. I couldn't do anything as my hands became covered in my own blood.
I was going to die here, impending death was soon.
My mind told me to stay hopeful, like all those storybooks I read as a child used to tell us as the dying protagonist somehow makes it out in the end and conquers the enemy. Still, even if I tried to drag myself up, the throbbing pain would beat me if the man behind this pain couldn't.
News and broadcast had warned us all about him, he was Carnage after all.
It's just like any other incident shared on the news, you hear about it, but unless it majorly affects you or those around you; you simply ignore it. All the times there were tornadoes, thunderstorms, or anything else that hugely damaged a state. It was never in my state so, while I sent everyone my regard, I didn't think anything big of it.
And that's exactly what I did with Carnage. I acknowledged him along with everyone else, but I never actually believed he would get me.
And that's where I was stupid. So, so stupid.
Now I must repent from my consequences, which has chosen to be this prolonged endure of pain till I breathe my final breath.
Many others appear to be meeting their fate along with me. Bodies were scattered out across the concrete floor, how we all ended up here I couldn't recall. My thoughts were all rushing ahead that I had no chance to turn back, take a look at my final decisions, and pinpoint where I truly went wrong.
All I could think about was the things I'll never be able to see. The bucket list that was there, but I never took notice of because I refused to believe my time to empty it out would be so short.
All I could think of was how my family would react to the loss of me. Did I ever get to live a life that I could easily say, 'I'm satisfied.' In the end? Did I manage to impress those around me even with the many unfulfilled plans I can never carry out and witness?
It was then I managed to snap out of my own consciousness to soon notice a familiar figure in the distance, there was an indescribable eerie disturbance in the thick air. I couldn't say how, but I knew the figure was able to tell that I was still breathing. They were able to tell that I was still fighting for the crumbs of life I had left.
They slowly approached me, all I could do was watch, even with my reflexes telling me to run; it felt like the slightest movement caused nothing but a great amount of pain throughout my whole body. The most I could do was close my eyes, and hope that this was simply an angel. Whether here to slowly lift my pain and let me see another day, or to take me away from this world and neverending suffering, I didn't care anymore. I just wanted to get out of what I could only describe as a preview of hell.
But this was no angel. Absurdly, this was the devil himself. I realized this with each nearing step, I couldn't help but shed tears at the man that will allegedly kill me.
I couldn't stop myself from breathing heavier then before as the man creeped towards me. He soon got down to a lower level to get a closer look. He shared bright red curly hair, and looked almost amused to see my decaying corpse. Amused as if I was nothing but a canvas, painted in a way to express his egotistical ways when he commits a crime such as a night like tonight.
I mentally braced myself for what was to happen, right now and after I forever close my eyes. A man such as the one in front of me would probably do whatever he pleased with my rotten corpse. I mean, if he manages to kill so wholeheartedly, who knows where his limits lie.
Suddenly, he moved his hand towards mine. I flinched in reflex but it didn't stop him from cupping his hand on my cheek to slowly smear blood off my face.
"Such a pretty doll. Shame this toy had to go to waste." I couldn't stop myself from continuous shedding tears. I would've appreciated the compliment if it was in another time. If it was from anyone else.
I was practically paralyzed while locking eyes with the man. It took me some willpower to not say anything to him that could encourage the idea of ending me right then and there. Still, doing that just shortens my time even more.
"So this is.. Really it, huh?" I couldn't hold back a cough mid-sentence as blood proceeded to run down the side of my mouth. There wasn't much left of this torment.
"Unfortunately. It saddens me that I sometimes end up breaking the wings of a beautiful dove, such like yourself." I didn't know how to truly respond to his words.
I feel like I should be flattered, flattered that I can appeal to someone even in a horrid sight like this. But then, I remember the situation I was in.
This wasn't simply sweet nothings being spilled on the floor, this was an act of confident arrogance. This man is letting me lay my eyes on his face because he knows that I won't have anyone to run and describe his face to.
"Whether your a killer or a victim, life is never fair." I found myself looking up at the sky while I slowly drown in my puddle of blood. My view was degrading, it was as if the world was turning into nothing but static.
How on Earth did it come to me having nothing but my killer as my last source of comfort? I'll never know, but I'll agree it's better than nothing, supposedly.
It was then that I was so focused on my thoughts that I didn't manage to catch the words slip out of my mouth.
"You can kill me now."
My eyes widened to the words I said, I was careless and said words I didn't fully mean. I hesitated to make any contact with the man, tensing to the silence.
"...I don't think I can inflict any more damage on this doll." Those words managed to ease my soul as I took a sigh of relief. The usual of the man taking up on my offer had slowly washed away. So in the end, I'll simply die of slow blood loss.
I soon laughed as I felt tears roll down my face, I felt the end creaking closer and closer by the passing minutes. I had kept death waiting for long enough.
To end my life off, I took the courage and strength to lightly grab ahold of the man's arm, "... What's your name? I'd like to know the name of my murder."
In response, the man gently grabbed my hand and kept a keen grip on it. It was a tight grip, yet firm enough to soothe me.
"Cletus. Cletus Kasady. Remember it well, pretty love."
My last thoughts pondered over the name. I could at least say I gave in with some closure.
"Kasady... Such a... Pretty name..." I felt my eyes slowly fall as darkness covered my vision. I couldn't stop myself from lifting up a small smile as my hand slipped from Kasady's grasp.
So this is what death feels like.
Who knew it would feel so peaceful.
