Kichadi Mavas / Khaechimavas kihaechimavas is a festival celebrated by "kashmiri pandits" . This day, last day of the dark fortnight of Paush is dedicated to Yakshaya and hence is also known as Yakshaya Mavas. As per the legend the Yakshya are the some of the forest-dwelling tribe that lived in Kashmir even before Rishi Munis crafted Kashmir as Kashmir. On this day a specially cooked rice mixed with Green Lentils (Moong Daal) called Khichadi is prepared for the Yakshya. Prayers are offered and a plate of Khichdi with some Redish is kept out side on the roof top for the Yakshaya. It was said that who ever snatch the cap of the Yakshaya, will be the richest one. So every child of the house was eager to get hold of yakshaya's cap. Even me too.😬 But he never came. Belated kihaechimavas mubarak to all. Main motive to celebrate festival is to share happiness with family and friends. To enjoy every moment.
