Friends had never been all that difficult for Sam to make— she was an outgoing person at the heart of things and the moment she connected with someone she was reasonably committed to making that connection last as long as she could. Usually, it was the fact that she was never guaranteed to be in the same place for more than a few months at a time that could make friendships difficult to maintain but, she reasoned, that was probably one of the best parts of her friendship with Kat-- the fact that the other woman understood that perfectly and they never gave each other a hard time about it. If anything, it made the time they could spend together even more fun, and Sam hadn’t wasted any time in inviting Kat out for a drink the moment their schedules lined up to make it happen. She was waiting for Kat outside the bar-- smoking the last of a cigarette that nearly fell out of her mouth altogether when she smiled, having spotted her friend approaching. “Hey, gorgeous! Long time, no see, eh? We’re gonna have to work on that one’a these days, I reckon. You want a bit?” Sam greeted, gesturing towards the cigarette between her lips for good measure.
