Kātarmal Sūrya Mandir
Nestled in the Himalayan foothills of the Almora district, at the picturesque hamlet of Katarmal is a temple dedicated to the Sun God (सूर्य देव). Originally built by the Katyuri rulers in the 9th Century CE, the present complex, consisting of the main temple surrounded by 44 smaller shrines is dated to the 13th Century CE. The distinctive Nāgar style tower (śikhara) as adapted in the Kumaon region is clearly visible. The east facing temple affords a lovely view of a lush valley and snow peaks beyond.
