The History of Kate Moss's Birthday Suits
The only way you don’t already know it’s Kate Moss’s birthday is if you haven’t yet logged into social media today. Moss, whose iconic style has been more than well-documented, is being wished many happy returns a million times over on Instagram. From Christy Turlington to our own Joe Zee, from legendary makeup artist Gucci Westman to Mario Testino, everyone’s wishing the original supermodel a happy 42nd.
Moss is the definitive it-girl; it’s not hyperbole to say that her personal style is the most influential ever. Because of her, young women pair denim cutoffs with fringed moccasins; bunny ears with bustiers; cheetah print coats with striped t-shirts and ballet flats; and skinny jeans with over-sized blazers—not to mention the tiny anchor tattoo so many young girls get in her honor. When it comes to fashion, there’s no holding back with Moss, and at no time is this more true than when it comes time to break out her birthday suits.
To celebrate her 25th, Moss hopped from the Versace runway to her birthday bash in the same red mini dress she’d just debuted. For her 34th, she accessorized a star-print Chanel jumpsuit with a gold star painted over her right eye (a la Kiss front man Paul Stanley). And today—though we can only imagine what’s in store for tonight—the 41-year-old stepped out in an outfit that screamed: “I’m going to throw on all of my favorite clothes, because, f$%*, it’s my birthday!”
