âTaking Risks Makes You a Stronger Leaderâ â And More Career Advice For Aspiring Fashionistas
Armarium co-founders Alexandra Lind Rose (left) and Trisha Gregory (right). Photo: Getty ImagesÂ
Working in fashion, while fun, is no easy task. And switching career paths in the industry? Daunting to say the least. But it can be done â just ask Trisha Gregory, co-founder of Armarium â a new lifestyle brand and app that allows women to borrow luxury ready-to-wear pieces and accessories.
After nearly a decade as the head of public relations for a high-end fashion brand, she took the leap and created Armarium along with her co-founder (and fellow fashion veteran) Alexandra Lind Rose. Together, the two are making what Gregory calls âone hit wondersâ â designer pieces that are costly, exclusive, or difficult to find â accessible to women straight from their smartphones. The app, which first debuted as an invite-only platform for fashion insiders, is now available for everyone.Â
Below, Gregoryâs lending sound advice for other aspiring lady-leaders looking to make career changes or launch a business.
On knowing when the time was right to start a new projectâŠ
I knew after many times of styling Ferragamo runway statement pieces on VIP women around the country for special events. Oftentimes, we worked with pieces that were cancelled from production or not found in the market. So I knew I wanted to create a platform that provided this type of access to more women.
Five elements to have when launching a businessâŠ
Passion for what you are building is key. The hours are late and there are many highs and lows along the road. Other fundamentals in the early days are: a solid plan backed with a lot of research, a great partner that shares your vision, a devoted team, a supportive network of friends and family, and patience.
On facing challenges and how to overcome themâŠ
Some of the biggest challenges have been learning the balance of the daily grind. The ability to multitask and focus can be challenging.
On the most difficult part about changing career pathsâŠ
Anxiety and fear in taking risks is what makes you a stronger leader and businesswoman. I am lucky to have the support of my former employer in many ways and to have brought so many elements of what I was taught in building a luxury brand into Armarium.Â

Princess Playdate! North West and Friends Got the Royal Treatment
North West has already solidified herself as the trendiest tot to have ever existedâand for good reason. Sheâs rocked Givenchy lace and Alexander Wang leather, fox furs and Doc Martenâs. Like the most seasoned fashion folk, she already has a signature look: all black everything paired with Docs or Timberlands, and a statement coat. And while Kim Kardashian once told Lucky magazine that North âdoesnât like pink or purple. She likes greysâŠand black,â the two-year-old has revealedâtime and time againâa softer (and smilier!) side, wearing knitted white, pink dresses, denim cutoffs, headbands, and other too-cute-for-words pieces.
Frankly, a day doesnât go by where the Yahoo Style office isnât giggling like teenage girls, ooo-ing and ahhh-ing over Noriâs inimitable style, so hereâs a running list of the kidâs best looks.

North West wearing a tiara and green dress after getting a princess makeover.
Theyâre the three best friends (read: princesses) that anyone could have! North West, Ryan Romulus, and Penelope Disick had a ball on Thursday. âThe girls got princess make overs at the Bibbity Bobbity Botique! I've never seen anything sweeter! Thank you @Disneyland for the magical memories!â Kim Kardashian-West posted on Instagram.Â
Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and North West matched in white while on vacation in Havana, Cuba.Â
Cuba is so hot right now, and the Kardashian-West clan just affirmed it. While in Havana, Kanye, Kim and North â sans Saint â stepped out for a stroll, in coordinated variations of white. While Yeezy opted for the crispest shade, Kim and Nori donned cream-colored dresses. North, who gave up her tried and true top knot for loose curls, was on trend in a fringed frock and nude flats. Photo: Splash NewsÂ
North West is already using a contouring kit as seen on Mario Dedivanovicâs Instagram.Â
To be a Kardashian is to be a fan of contouring, and North West is no exception. In a photo posted on celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovicâs (@makeupâbymario)Â Instagram, he shared a shot of Saint Westâs big sister with various shades of nude finger-painted on her face. He captioned the shot: âWhen #North steals your contour palette omg.â Oh NoriâYouâre beautiful just the way you are!Â
North West getting her hair done by Jen Atkin to complete her princess Elsa look.
North West is just like any other totâshe has an affinity for Frozen too! On Sunday, celebrity hair stylist Jen Atkin posted an Instagram picture of North West dressed in an Elsa princess dress and getting her hair perfectly coiffed in a bun. âFinal touchups on "Elsa" while she studies her part in Frozen #North#ILoveThisLittleBunny #MyEasiestClientâ she posted.

North West may not be old enough to walk the runways like her aunties Kendall and Kylie, but that doesnât mean sheâs going to skip out on the New York Fashion Week fun. On Tuesday, the tot was spotted in a graphic tee, black bottoms and Vans high-top sneakers boarding a private jet with Kim (in a coat with a fur collar) and Caitlyn Jenner. (Splash News)Â
North West, wearing Minnie Mouse ears, playing with dolls in her closet.
We got a sneak peak of Noriâs enviable denim collection before her baby brother was born, but thanks to Kim Kardashianâs Instagram, weâve officially seen it all. On Friday, the mother-of-two shared a picture of North, wearing Minnie Mouse ears and a costume, playing in her closet. Weâve spotted Yeezys, Vans, tutus and books â what more could a girl need?
Saint West holds North Westâs finger.Â
Kim Kardashian West gave birth to her son just a few weeks ago. And while a day usually doesnât go by when sheâs spotted out and about, taking selfies, and posing on red carpets, sheâs been laying low. Sheâs also kept photos of Saint West out of her social media feeds and shielded him from the paparazzi. In her first post featuring Kanyeâs male heir, she shared a pic of the newborn holding onto his big sister North Westâs finger.âShe said, "He's my best friend,"â the caption reads. Photo: @kimkardashian/Instagram
North West in a khaki sweatshirt, jeans and a fur coat.Â
In case you werenât already aware, North West has more swag than you ever will. On Wednesday, Kim Kardashian posted a pic of her little girl on Instagramâcaptioned âSwagââin a khaki sweatshirt (that looked like something hot off Kanyeâs Yeezy collection), light denim jeans, Converse, a baseball cap and a larger-than-life fur coat. As if her look for a day out with Kourtney and P wasnât sweet enough, she sucked on a lollipop too. (Photo: @kimkardashian/Instagram)Â
North West met Santa Claus at Kris Jennerâs annual Christmas Eve bash.Â
North West might wear Balmain, but that doesnât mean sheâs much different than every other kid. This was very clear when her mother, Kim Kardashian West, posted a picture on her app of the toddler meeting Santa Claus at Kris Jennerâs annual Christmas Eve party. Northâs face says it all: pure joy. Photo: John Hong/kimkardashianwest.com
North West and the Disick kids wear all black for a family photo.Â
Of course the Kardashian women would not only be superstars, have successful businesses, and millions of followers on social media, but the cutest kids ever. Kourtney and Kimâs kids, North West, Mason Disick, Penelope Disick, and Reign Disick, all wore matching black outfits for a family holiday photo. North rocked her signature high bun with a trendy lace-up dress while her cousin and ballerina BFF P wore a silk dress. As for the boys, Mason wore a muscle tee and held his little brother close. North West in a pink furry coat and a rhinestone choker necklace.Â
Talk about pretty in pink! Kim Kardashian took to Instagram (and then to Twitter, of course) to share a photo of her âlittle ballerinaâ North West. Looking like sheâs ready to attend the most glam holiday party, Nori was captured in a candid photo wearing the most fab pink furry coat and rhinestone choker necklace. What a lewk! (Photo: Splash)

North West, Kris Jenner and Penelope Disick hold hands while shopping at The Grove in Los Angeles, Calif.
Kris Jenner isnât just a proprietor to a dynasty, but sheâs also a grandma too. On Monday, the 60-year-old took a break from her momager duties to take her two grandchildrenâNorth and Penelopeâto the American Girl Store. While Penelope looked ready for the holidays in a black and white houndstooth dress and nude flats, North (who toted around a baby doll instead of her pink mini purse) wore a leather mini, textured jacket with zippers and patent leather Dr. Martens. Even better, Noriâs shoes matched Krisâ...minus that fact that her grandmaâs were Saint Laurent. (Though thatâs nothing Kimye wouldnât dress their offspring in!) Photo: Splash News

North West in a khaki tutu, leotard and custom Balmain blazer in Los Angeles, Calif.
A tutu and Balmain blazer is North Westâs official uniform. And while thatâs totally impressiveâsheâs two, after allâwhatâs more inspiring is the fact that Kimyeâs adorable offspring shut down the paps like a true prima ballerina would. In a video shared on Twitter, Nori was spotted telling the ruthless photogs to hold the flashââI said no pictures!â she saidâwhile attempting to make her way into dance class. At least she said so in style! Â
North West sitting in a teepee at Kim Kardashian Westâs baby shower.Â
Despite her ripe age of two, donât be fooled. North West wasnât just another camper at Kim Kardashian Westâs Troop Beverly Hills-themed baby shower. According to Kimâs Instagram, Noriâwho wore the same pink and white pajama set as the rest of the faux-glamping girlsâwas in fact the official âtroop leader.â Where can we sign up?Â

North West and Penelope Disick look too-cute-for-words leaving dance class in Los Angeles, Calif. with Kourtney Kardashian. While Noriâs wearing a grey leotard and tutu (and Pâs is black and white), they both have on tap dance shoes instead of their usual ballerina flats. It looks like the cousins are moving up in the company!Â
North West in frayed white shorts and a white tank top at a pumpkin patch with her BFF.Â
Youâre looking at two âbffs at the pumpkin patch,â courtesy of Kim Kardashian Westâs Instagram. On Monday, North West posed for a candid picture in a hay field with her pal. The big sister-to-be sat on a pumpkin, wearing all white. The denim shorts, tank top, and classic Vans might not look exciting, but throw in the white face paint and her monochromatic look is right on trend.
North West dressed as Minnie Mouse for a casual closet hang with mom Kim Kardashian West.
As Kimyeâs offspring, North West rarely makes a style misstep. From Balmain to Givenchy, to lace, leather, mirrored sunglasses, and gold chains, she usually dresses far beyond her yearsâexcept when no oneâs looking. Kim took a selfie of herself and little Nori during a 6 am closet hang; the barefoot two-year-old wears a Minnie Mouse dress and her hair down, loose, and curly. (For once!) Not to miss is the little oneâs denim collectionâ10 pairs of jeans are visible, but whoâs counting?â which she probably changed into soon thereafter. Itâs all about balanceâŠright?

Like father, like daughter! North West wore a thick gold chain necklace just like Kanye Westâs.
We know that North West has a total of six custom baby Balmain jackets. Weâve also seen her wear Givenchy lace and leather, tote mini Saint Laurent purses and sport the occasional fur coat. But itâs her statement necklaceâthat she paired with a large gray top, cuffed pleather pants and Doc Martin boots while in New York Cityâthatâs turning heads this time. The totâs thick gold chain bears an uncanny resemblance to Kanyeâs, proving that sheâs following in the enviably stylish footsteps of her parents. (Nori matched Kim in leather a day prior.)

North West and Penelope Disick are the cutest little mermaids in St. Barts.
Just in case you were wondering, mermaids are real, according to Kim Kardashianâs Instagram. While vacationing in St. Barts, the expecting mom posted a picture of North and Penelope giving Disneyâs red-headed Ariel a run for her money. The two stood poolside in teeny tiny black bikini tops, scaled skirtsâPâs in pink and Noriâs in greenâand top-knot buns.

North West officially made Kim Kardashian a soccer mom on Friday. Kim posted a series of pictures of her âballer babyâ on Instagram to share Noriâs latest endeavorâsoccer. The tiny tot wore a black crew neck shirt with cut-off sleeves and black shorts with fringes to match her shin guards, cleats, and socks. North also coordinated with Kanyeâor is it Koach Kanye?âwhoâs trailing behind her. She completed the sporty look with her typical mini bun, which is the perfect âdo for game time.

North West smothers a chocolate pancake all over her face.
We know that North West loves popcorn. (She left the movie theater with a bag of it and even managed to stain Kimâs Lanvin coat with butter.) But now, itâs clear that sheâs just another babe who loves brunchâŠespecially when chocolate pancakes are involved. Kim Kardashian posted a âbeforeâ picture of little Nori, who was wearing a grey crew neck top with her hair in a high bun, taking a pancake to the face on Sunday. Believe it or not, the âafterâ picture is even betterâŠ

North West after she attempted to eat a chocolate pancake.
It looks like North West smothered the pancake all over her face, getting more chocolate on in than in her! But it appears as though she kept her T-shirt stain-free, which, as a two-year-old, is pretty impressive.

Kim Kardashian and North West match in khaki for a trip to the movies.
A family that wears khaki together, stays together! While Kim Kardashian opted for a Lanvin wrap-front pique coat despite the summer heat, North West wore a beige jumpsuit and bright white Vans sneakers. She accessorized the look with a red bag of popcorn and seemed to have left her mark on Kimâs $4,500 jacketâŠwith butter stains! After all, whatâs a trip to the movies without the salty snack?

North West wearing Kanye Westâs diamond gold chain necklace.
It goes without saying that baby North West has great taste. So itâs no surprise that she gravitated toward Kanyeâs diamond and gold chain necklace. On Friday, Kim Kardasian posted a picture of Nori rocking her fatherâs bling with the caption: âNo Daddyâs itâs me necklace.â Though it mustâve weighed almost as much as the tiny tot, the sparkly accessory looked fabulous layered atop her pink dress.

North West in a custom white Balmain jacket and tutu.
We love it when North breaks out her custom Balmain jackets. In November 2014, mom Kim shared the gift from designer Olivier Rousteing via Instagram. Heâd made the then 16-month-old North three different versions. Later that month, she wore the white one with a denim skirt. But on Thursday, she went for a ballerina-inspired look while out and about in Los Angeles, Calif. North paired the white blazer with gold buttons with a matching white leotard and ballet flats (because sheâs far too cool for pink). Her only accessories? A topknot and diamond studs. And this is just her rehearsal look! We canât wait what custom look Nori shows off come recital time!

North West in the Paris airport wearing denim cutoffs, a sleeveless knit turtleneck, and Doc Martens.
Itâs official: North West schooled everyone in airport style. The too-cute-for-words tot was spotted in a stroller (because why walk when you can be pushed?) at the airport in Paris wearing light denim cutoffs (that were reminiscent of Auntie Kendallâs Coachella jorts), a white sleeveless knit turtleneck, and her favorite Doc Martens with black socks. She accessorized (or rather her mom did) with a pink and purple rhinestone cross necklace. And while this candid shot is the epitome of picture-perfect, whatâs really sending us over the edge is how Nori is flashing her beautiful baby teeth. Itâs as if she knows that the world is her oyster.

North West in a white maxi-dress for her baptism in Jerusalem, Israel.
Kim, Kanye, North West and Khloe Kardashian recently took a trip to Armenia to meet the Prime Minister, buy some land, commemorate the anniversary of the genocide, and connect with their âhistoric motherland.â But the group moved on to Israel Monday with reported plans of a to visit the Dead Sea, the Wailing Wall, and a handful of other holy sites. First up on the agenda: Getting Nori baptized. Dressed in a cream, long-sleeved maxi dress sans shoes (odd, because according to Kim, the little one has an affinity for footwear), the toddler looked angelic for her special moment at St. James Cathedral in the Armenian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, according to Israeli news site Maariv. Yeezus also dressed in white, while Kim was in an accordion-pleated brown maxi skirt and matching peach top.

The Kardashian/Jenner/West family took to West Hills Church in the San Fernando Valley in shades of white on Easter Sunday.
No one does holidays better than the Kardashians. Kendall Jenner wore a crop top and culottes, Khloe Kardashian was in a tight pencil skirt and sheer long sleeve shirt, and Kylie Jenner went casual in light-washed jeans. Despite their over-the-top outfits, the West branch of the tree outdid them all: Kanye wore white ripped denim pants, camel-colored desert boots, and a distressed cotton t-shirt with too-perfect holes; Kim donned a knit maxi skirt and matching tank, and North wore a white ensemble with a floral wreath headband.

She may be a child of the millennium, but that doesnât mean Nori canât stylishly throwback to the â90s. Here, she wears some version of what most girls wear out on a Saturday nightâin their twenties.
Of course little Nori took to the FROW in all her fashionable glory at New York Fashion Week (and London, and Paris). Her vest looks like itâs straight out of Kanyeâs Adidas collection and her green legwarmers are a street style photographerâs dream.

Gigi Hadid Shows Her Love for Zayn In a Very Fashionable Way

Leaving Drakeâs Saturday Night Live after-party at Dave and Buster's, Hadid was spotted wearing her love for Zayn on her sleeve (or shirt?) â literally. Now thatâs one way to repel her, presumably many, unwanted suitors... (Photo: Instagram)Â
The advent of social media has made the âbefore-and-afterâ picture a total phenomenon. From pics of contouring to hair braids to straight flexing, a day probably doesnât go by without one such typically jaw-dropping or envy-inducing transition photo in your feed.Â
Ashleigh Shackelfordâs version, though, is different. She is using social media to show that thereâs actually no difference in her side-by-side mirror pics, aside from her hand propped on her hip. Instead, the 24-year-old writer snapped two selfies in a black bra and panties â taken only hours apart â to show that she is the same size in both ⊠and for good reason.
â#TeamStillFat,â Shackelford captioned her image. âBecause before-and-afters are most often triggering and a means of reminding people that happiness/your future should revolve around losing weight or fitting lethal white, thin, and able body beauty standards. Stop promoting healthiness as thinness. And stop perpetuating violent beauty standards that maintain racist, ableist fatphobia. #beblessed âđŸïžâ
While Shackelfordâs viral post was met with some criticism, itâs safe to say the naysayers have been outnumbered. Her photo has more than 8,000 likes on Instagram â making it her most-liked one to date â and nearly 17,000 likes on Facebook.
âI see there being so much more of a revolution going forward,â Shackelford said in an interview on Self.com. âThere are so many conversations that need to be had around the body and what that looks like for who we consider worthy and who we consider healthy.â
Ashley Grahamâs Shopping Strategy: âI Get 3 of the Same Dress, Try Them On, and Send Back 2âČ
Ashley Graham and Joe Zee at their Acceptance Revolution: Fashionâs New Body panel at South by Southwest. (Photo: Getty Images)
If there was ever a woman to talk about the fashion industryâs recent acceptance revolution, itâs Ashley Graham. Sheâs a ground-breaking, self-proclaimed body activist who has turned the style setâs world upside down. At 28, Graham is the first and only full-figured model to snag a spot on Sports Illustratedâs cover. âThey took a risk by putting me on there, and it was so powerful and so necessary,â she says. Not only that, but she has also created a collaboration of dresses ranging from sizes 4 to 24 with Dressbarn, has a sexy lingerie line for women of all sizes, and, most importantly, works tirelessly to promote womenâs self-love, health, and confidence.Â
At South by Southwest, she sat down with Yahoo Styleâs own Joe Zee to talk about it all â and more! From the reason she wants the word âplus-sizeâ banned and her thoughts on Kim K.âs nude selfie to how Gigi Hadid is a fashion inspiration and why Grahamâs fashion designs are far from perfect, the model bares all. (Well, not literally.)
1. Should the word âplus-sizeâ be banned? âIâm not a fan of it because itâs bringing a divide among girls,â says Graham. She thinks the word is âtotally outdatedâ and calls herself âcurvy, sexaliciousâ instead. Graham, though, does have a group of friends who use and like the word, as it gives them a sense of community, camaraderie, and belonging.
2. Why sheâs a self-proclaimed body activist: âI just want women to understand that they should not conform to societyâs beauty standards. You should be able to look in the mirror and understand that that is what beauty is.â Graham explains that there have been little steps in the fashion and beauty worlds, but she hopes to take all of the disparate successes and turn them into a larger discussion.
3. Graham doesnât think designers, who have historically shied away from offering extended sizes, should be afraid to tap into the plus-size industry. âSo many people are afraid to go into the bigger sizes because itâs going to make them look bad, or cost them more money, or itâs going to devalue what theyâve been working for,â she says. âBut I think theyâd get a lot more women applauding them and saying thank you.â Sheâs particularly grateful to Christian Siriano, who designed a line with Lane Bryant.
4. Instead of begging designers to take action, Graham took it upon herself to create. She designed a collection of dresses with Dressbarn called Beyond. Graham wanted there to be something for everyone (the pieces come in sizes 4 to 24), but she says they still have major work to do. The âplus-sizeâ pieces ($56) are still more expensive than the âstraight-sizeâ ones ($48).
5. Sheâs no stranger to rejection or traumatic experiences in the modeling industry. âI had an agent actually wave money in my face and say, âIf you lose some weight, you can get a lot more of these. Put that Snickers bar down, honey.ââ Graham says sheâs been asked to gain weight, lose weight, and everything in between.
6. And, yes, she has felt the pressure to starve herself. But how far has Graham gone? âI tried not to eat for a few days, but that didnât work,â she laughs. âI have never actually stuck my finger down my throat. But I thought about it.â Her secret: balance. She lives a healthy lifestyle â working out and eating right â so if she wants some fries, sheâll have some.
7. She knows that itâs important to look past rejection, because âyou never know what opportunity is going to turn into something major.â Like the time she went to 50 castings for Fashion Week and didnât land any runway shows, but she did get connected to Carine Roitfeld, the famous French editor formerly of Vogue Paris and now at CR Fashion Book, who shot her for Harperâs Bazaar soon after.
8. Her thoughts on Kim Kardashianâs infamous nude selfie: âI donât know that that was the best message for young girls, but then again, her body looks amazing! As a body activist, though, I donât know that I would do that.â
9. Even Graham has been the subject of a thigh-gap-gate. âThere was a picture of me in Cosmopolitan and I have a thigh gap. ... And itâs because Iâm dancing,â she laughs. âWhen you poke your hips backward and you lean your body forward, anybody can have a thigh gap. Everyone thought it was totally disingenuous, but it was just my thigh at a great angle.â
10. The dress she wore to the Oscars was inspired by Gigi Hadid. Hereâs what happened: Graham fell in love with a dress the fellow model wore and got in touch with the designer, Bao Tranchi, who then agreed to design her red-hot Oscars dress in a record-breaking four days. (It was also the first time Tranchi made a custom-size 36DDD bra.) Of the designer who used to only make bodysuits, Graham says, âShe told me: âYouâre the only girl Iâm dressing for the Oscars and itâs because I want people to know that it doesnât matter what size you are and designers need to step outside of our comfort zones.ââ
11. How she shops: Graham shops everywhere â from J Brand to Target to Bloomingdaleâs to vintage. âI get three of the same dress, try them on, and send back two,â she explains. âBut who wants to do that?!â
Whether itâs activated charcoal to detoxify skin, an Ayurvedic baking soda concoction to resolve bloating, or a gravitational colonic to âRoto-Rooterâ oneâs insides, thereâs frankly nothing too eccentric or conventional that the wellness world wonât dare to try. Keep cycling, mixing matcha, and ingesting chia seeds â but itâs all about bone broth now.
Founder of the Broth of Life Laya Barak says that bone broth helped with her Crohnâs disease, but it also gave her a beauty boost. âWhile I was drinking the broth, I noticed that my nails and my hair were growing in much faster and thicker,â she says.
Read what Barak has to say about how drinking bone broth (on the reg) could replace a costly and traditional beauty routine (hint: let monthly facials be bygones!).
Yahoo Style: Bone broth is packed with protein, good fats, collagen, calcium, and keratin â all ingredients that support glowing skin and strengthen hair and nails. Is that something you thought about when making the recipe?
Laya Barak: Not at all! When we first started making the broth, it was to help inflammation and soothe the gut. Once I saw how fast and hard my nails were growing â and my skin also looked so clear and healthy â my mom and I realized there was much more to this elixir of life. This is what prompted us to have our broth sent out and tested by a food scientist who found high amounts of collagen in our product. He told us that outside of helping to heal and seal your gut, bone broth can also smooth out wrinkles and make you look and feel 10 years younger.
So does that mean this can replace weekly or monthly facials and Botox?
Yes! Facials and Botox can be very expensive and are not giving your body half the benefit you can get from a cup or two of bone broth a day. In consuming bone broth, you are able to absorb collagen directly into your body in an extremely soluble form instead of having it injected, which may cause reactions to your skin and is also not long lasting. Another beauty bonus of bone broth â it helps fight cellulite over time!
How often and how much should someone consume bone broth to reap the benefits and see beautiful (literally!) results?
So here is what people need to understand about bone broth: No one is saying itâs a miracle cure all in a day. If you are drinking one to two cups as part of your daily regimen, you will see differences in your skin, nails, and overall health in about two to three weeks. Every person is different, but the more the collagen builds up in your body, the better your skin will look. By consuming bone broth, you are healing your body from the inside out.

Bella Hadidâs Leotard, Ellie Gouldingâs Body Jewelry, and More From the 2016 Elle Style Awards
To mark the end of London Fashion Week, a star-studded crowd gathered at Londonâs Tate Britain to celebrate the annual Elle Style Awards. And the fashions â worn by personalities ranging from top model Karlie Kloss (who followed in her BFF Taylor Swiftâs footsteps and won the 2016 award for Inspiring Woman of the Year) and American songstress Lana Del Rey to teenagers such as Lucky Blue Smith and Lottie Moss â were extraordinary.Â

Naked is the new orange, black, pink, blue, whiteâyou get the point. Itâs in! It could be said that Kim Kardashian paved the way for figure-hugging, next-to-nothing apparel (especially on the red carpet), but the truth is that Jennifer Lopez and her glorious curves set fashion down this path many moons ago. At the 2000 Grammy Awards, to be exact.
Lopez outdid even her own love of the naked dress, via a handful of her ten outfit changes at the American Music Awards, many of which were made of some variation of totally see-through material. Her parade comes at the end of the year in which the naked dress reached fever pitchâfrom Beyonce and Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala to Gwen Stefani onstage to barely there looks on Taraji P. Henson and one of this yearâs biggest comebacks, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Carol Burnett Brought UGGs to the SAG Awards Because Sheâs 82 and Can Do What She Wants
Carol Burnett, 82, wearing UGG slippers on the 2016 SAG Awards red carpet. Photo: Getty Images
By virtue of the fact that Carol Burnett is 82 years old (or young!?), she can pretty much do whatever she wants. And thatâs just what she did at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, Calif., on Saturday. The legendary TV personality and comedienne stayed true to the age-old axiom that âcomfort is keyâ when she lifted her kelly green skirtâs slit to reveal that she opted for fuzzy grey UGG slippers as her shoe of choice at some point on the red carpet.
A close up of the slippers. Photo: Getty Images
While Burnett â whoâs receiving this yearâs Lifetime Achievement Award from funny girls Amy Poehler and Tina Fey â made a name for herself as the OG queen of comedy, it seems that sheâll go down in the sartorial history books as well. The decision to don rubber-soled and sheepskin-lined slippers was probably a practical choice instead of a satirical one because, letâs be real, who wouldnât want to wear comfy kicks?
But the octogenarian didnât entirely buck the prevailing heel trend. The actress was also photographed in patent leather pointy heels while posing for photographers along the press line. For her big moment on stage, sheâll most likely stick with the stacked shoe, but at least she has the comfy slippers waiting for her after the cameras are turned off.

In a time when thereâs so much pressure put on the who, what, when, where and why when it comes to celebritiesâ outfits, we salute Burnett on her sensible pre-show slippers. They say with age, comes wisdom. Young ladiesâtake note!Â

Maude Apatow Took Her Dad as a Date to the Sundance Film Festival

Out of all the fish in the sea, will you come to Sundance with me? While itâs unconfirmed whether Maude Apatow uttered such words to her father, comedian Judd Apatow, prior to the film festival, she did pose alongside him at the Park City, Utah, premiere of her new movie, Other People. (If your dad was Judd Apatow, wouldnât you do the same?)
On Thursday, the father-daughter duo walked the red carpet together at the snowy ski townâs annual movie event to celebrate the 17-year-old landing a supporting role in the forthcoming flick, marking her fourth appearance in an Apatow production.
The proud pop looked, well, like a dad (a doting one at that), in baggy jeans, a blue blazer, and brown sneakers. Maude, on-trend in a sheer boho mini dress, showed off how to look fancy in frigid temps. The high-neck, black and floral-print frock, tights and ankle boots were as sweet as Maple Syrup Taffy (look up the snow concoction, you wonât regret it).
The apple clearly didnât fall far from the tree in terms of the teenâs acting prowess. As for her style, thoughâletâs just say she clearly got it from her mama!Â

And it wouldnât be a Lopez production without costumes that are bright, tight, and sparkly. Before slipping into a form-fitting Gabriela Cadena white dress to celebrate her opening night, the 46-year-old (what!?) took to the stage in seven next-to-naked (plus or minus some pelage and plumage) ensembles created by some of her favorite designers. Zuhair Murad was the force behind three looks. Another three, designed by Donatella Versace with the help of costume designers Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, were emblazoned with 260,000 Swarovski crystals in a wide range of colors to make crystal-mesh panels and 100 feet of jeweled chains. As if those numbers donât subdue the surprise factor, Vogue reports that the three outfits took more than 1,400 hours and over two months to create.Â
Just because she sang âLove Donât Cost a Thingâ doesnât mean the same holds true for the bedazzling costumes!

Gigi Hadid getting out of the car in Paris, France with patchwork jeans. (Splash News)Â
Iâve been a DIY denim queen since I was old enough to pick up a pair of scissors. (Iâm a â90s baby after all!). As a teenager, my weekends were spent sifting through vintage vendors at the local swap meet. After finding the perfect Leviâs amidst a musky pile of pants, Iâd take them back to my crafts corner for the royal treatmentâtearing âem, distressing âem, and embellishing âem. The repurposed bottoms, once trash, became treasures under my tutelage and I would then resell them to friends or on consignment at boutiques as if they were couture.
So when I saw Gigi Hadid step out of her car while in Paris, France in a pair of black skinnies with two knee patches â a red heart on one and a gold star on the other â I was reminded of my teenage trade and felt compelled to share that you, too, can wear your heart (and star?) on your sleeve. (Did I say knee?)
It's likely that her pants actually cost a pretty penny, but that doesn't mean yours have to. Here's how:
Step 1: Pick a pair of simple jeans. They don't have to be black. Like these from H&M. Or these. Or these.
Step 2: Play with patches. Pick two, and like in Gigi's case, opposites attract. Play it safe and choose a heart and a star like hers. Or, pick two that speak to you. Like this goth-punk wicca eye or this retro â70s daisy.Â
Step 3: Mark the placement with a pencil (it'll wash out!) and superglue away. There are also iron-on options that work just as well.
Grab a camel coat, your biggest, blackest sunglasses and sleek boots. Now you're one step closer to stealing Gigi's Parisian style. Au revoir!

The only way you donât already know itâs Kate Mossâs birthday is if you havenât yet logged into social media today. Moss, whose iconic style has been more than well-documented, is being wished many happy returns a million times over on Instagram. From Christy Turlington to our own Joe Zee, from legendary makeup artist Gucci Westman to Mario Testino, everyoneâs wishing the original supermodel a happy 42nd.
Moss is the definitive it-girl; itâs not hyperbole to say that her personal style is the most influential ever. Because of her, young women pair denim cutoffs with fringed moccasins; bunny ears with bustiers; cheetah print coats with striped t-shirts and ballet flats; and skinny jeans with over-sized blazersânot to mention the tiny anchor tattoo so many young girls get in her honor. When it comes to fashion, thereâs no holding back with Moss, and at no time is this more true than when it comes time to break out her birthday suits.
To celebrate her 25th, Moss hopped from the Versace runway to her birthday bash in the same red mini dress sheâd just debuted. For her 34th, she accessorized a star-print Chanel jumpsuit with a gold star painted over her right eye (a la Kiss front man Paul Stanley). And todayâthough we can only imagine whatâs in store for tonightâthe 41-year-old stepped out in an outfit that screamed: âIâm going to throw on all of my favorite clothes, because, f$%*, itâs my birthday!â

Last month, Jennifer Lawrence was all black lace and deep berry lip to promote The Hunger Games. Because, thatâs what Katniss Everdeen would do. But for the premiere of her new film, called Joy, Lawrence fully embodied the title character. On the New York City red carpet for the third and latest J.Law/Bradley Cooper/David O. In a silky white Dior dress with dewy makeup and her newly platinum hair, Lawrence revealed a softer side. Joined by Natalie Dormer, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro and a handful of other well-dressed guests, it was the most stylish red carpet New Yorkâs seen this month.
