Books get called "classics" for a whole host of different reasons, and the word definitely means a variety of things to different people. Little Golden Books are often considered classics in their entirety as an imprint, while I occasionally find them a bit cutesy for my taste. That said, "Pantaloon" (1951), by Kathryn Jackson, first published as a Golden Book in the 1950s with illustrations by Leonard Weisgard, and then reissued in 2010 with new (and equally wonderful) artwork by Steven Salerno, is definitely worthy of the name. It's a simultaneously retro-feeling and somehow timeless anthropomorphic animal story about a hapless poodle who just wants to help out in the bakery he adores, but can't seem to do anything but cause trouble. Like the slapstick movies of yore, "Pantaloon" has a great pace, lots of laughs, and will entertain over and over again! ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutsclassickidlit #noodlenutskidsbooks #pantaloon #kathrynjackson #leonardweisgard #stevensalerno #littlegoldenbooks #goldenbooks #1950sbooks #vintagekidsbooks #childhoodunplugged #bookstagram #childhoodmemories #beautifulbooks #kidsbooks #oldbooks #vintagechildrensbooks #childrensclassics https://www.instagram.com/p/B5ivYIkHzdP/?igshid=11qthm7k7jfm8
